MPG..

So I recently bought a MK3 1.4 16v S Clio on a 07 plate, my only concern though is the MPG I'm getting out of the car is only 31:\ Now I mainly drive on the motorway to work and don't do much nipping around in it so I thought the MPG should go up and be consistent.. My old Clio which was a 1.2 MK2 Ph2 was getting much better with a minimum of 43 being pushed.

When I bought the car from a dealer he said that it will be serviced before the sale, but is a service in his eyes just oil and filter change? could it be that the other filters need changing? Could that be a reason why its low?

Any suggestions why would be highly appreciated!

Ps - before the comment comes I've not been thrashing it, due to the fact it would go below 31! haha so I don't think its my driving style..

You reckon this is what I should check first then? How hard is it to change? D.I.Y? It's on the exhaust isn't it?

I think mine is on the way out too (albeit on a 182). I dont do many miles (1.6 to work and then the same back most days and the odd zoom around town) and the EM light has been on three times in the last year or so. First time I didn't have a code reader and it was the pre-cat sensor, the last two times have came within the last six weeks though, my code reader wiped but didn't find the faults and I've noticed my around town mpg had dipped from 30ish to about 25.

Have you reset the trip computer? That could be 31mpg average since the car was new so would take a VERY long time to go up. Reset it and see if its any better.

Unless your refering to some sort of instant MPG computer function that my 182 doesnt have.

Yeah I reset it more or less every time I fill up just to see what kind of mileage I'm getting, once It's settled down it always lands around 31 /32 MPG

Are these sensors expensive anyway?
