MS Excel Formula Help

ive created a spread sheet to calculate this -

got everything done apart from A. A refers to a gradient so if there isnt one then its 0. times something by 0 and you get 0 and ive just been struggling to get a working.

here is the spread sheet ive done can anyone help

due to my lack of excel knowledge ive split each part of the sum up.

now if i do this in excel = D (cell B15) + 0.1 * A (cell B16) i get 5.01 i dont think i get the correct anwser

im using figures D = 4.41 and A= 6

um yeah you are right maybe im looking at it the wrong way round

4.41 + 0.1 = 4.51 * 6 = 27.06

Nah if 0.1 and A are in the same cell it'll do that multiplication first and then add it to the value in the other cell, like each cell is in a set of brackets.

I can't seem to open your attachment, all I get is a zip file full of various xml files.

In any case, I understand your question - what if a is zero then (d+0.1a) is the same as writing (d+ (0.1*0)). As you said, anything multiplied by zero is zero, therefore in the instance of no gradient the final part of the equation (d+0.1a) is the same as writing (d+0), which in my opinion is absolutely fine.

If the equation is correct then that's what it should be. Try to amend it and you'll get inaccurate results.

Also I'm not sure sbridgey's Algorithm is correct. Personally I think it's:

(V * T) + (V * V) / (2 * (D + (0.1 * A)))
