MS SQL Server HELP Please

Hello does any one have any idea how to make jobs & alerts work in sql. The jobs run but the alerts dont display anything eg. using net send how could i fix that? Any one know how to do any good alerts like a nearly full DB alert im having trouble with it and its the final thing for uni i have to do for monday?
