Have you dragged it into the dock? If you haven't then it'll only appear there when you run it and when it's closed, it'll dissapear.

Go to your harddisc and then it's inside Applications. Drag it from there onto the dock.

Edit: Did you run it from the disc image or drag it from the disc image to your applications folder. If it didn't come with an installer, then you'll need to do that. I can't tell you if it does because I used AdiumX because it's 5 million times better than Microsofts client.

See my edit. Sounds like you didn't drag it from the disc image (the .dmg you would have downloaded) to the Applications folder. You just ran it straight from the image, hence why it's not there anymore.

see I don't have a problem with that, it never signs me out once I'm logged in and using it, I just have the problem that the whole application keeps disappearing the next time I log in...

in your bar across the top of the screen, click on the apple, when it drops down click on "about this mac", a box should then appear of which it will say what version you are running

Works in 10.3.9 fine here, does log you out from time to time.

Fine at home on 10.4.7 on both Intel and Power PC Macs now.

Ta, will try it tonight :)

I'm still none the wiser as to how I keep msn in the dock and on the Mac though :S

Karen has an intel mac so she has 10.4

Her problem I still suspect is that it's not been copied to applications. Once it's downloaded there should be a disk image on the desktop, she needs to open that and drag MSN into the applications folder, regardless of whether it runs automatically after downloading.

If you're still having problems then I'll download the evil-ness myself and tell you exactly what to do.

Just downloaded it so here's what to do:

1. Download the file. It'll finish and warn you about containing an application, say "ok" to open it.

2. A window will appear with the Messenger icon in it.

3. Click the Mac face icon in the dock to open a Finder window.

4. Click "Applications" in the Finder window's left column then drag the Messenger icon from it's own window to Applications.

5. Click the eject button next to the "Microsoft Messenger" disk image in the Finder window's left column. The Messenger window will dissapear.

6. Click the Messenger icon to launch the program then click on it's dock icon and hold until the menu appears.

7. Select "Keep in dock" and the program will stay where it is. You can drag it to the left to position it where you want.

Hope this helps and my apologies if some of it is insultingly obvious, I wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything :)

Thanks Red Cup, basic is good for me!

However, i've been out the last two nights so not had chance to play about with it but I have logged in ok and it hasn't disappeared despite not changing anything since downloading it yet again... :S will do a full shutdown and see if it's still there over the w/e...
