It will be the weather.
It has got colder over the last couple of weeks and this affect MPG

All of the above, plus it might be doing with a good service, all filters etc?

Also mate without insulting your intelligence but your not carrying any un-needed weight i.e tools or anything?

Also of you drive with the window down alot over 35mph this will reduce economy by about 4-5%.

Maybe try a fuel additive? This cleans out the engine, injectors and so on might be worth a try?

It's most likely just the change in air temp as winter approaches. Enjoy it, the cool dense air makes for much better performance (and then even lower mpg!).

Clean your injectors. I can hash the total boobies off mine and it never drops below mid 30 mpg.

70 - 80+mph with drop down blasts is in the 40mpg mark!!!

Best thing i ever did !!

ive just had my cup serviced and i used a few of the super unleaded's around and i always found a drop in the amount i got to a full tank by about 40miles compared to the normall stuff, with my town driving on sainsburys standard stuff i get around 230 to a tank and around 26-28mpg but when i use super unleaded i get about 190-210 and still do 26-28mpg WTF! :S and my mate has the same prob in his 106 rallye

how,when.where and how much? ^^^^^^^

20 quid from LSUK (Lucas) Sure theyve gone under tho going by the press or was it just selected stores?

Probably not the problem regards to the topic but if you have a 172 / 182 with over 70k well worth doing. Im amazed.

Also 2 injectors off my spare engine were found not to be working (originally took these in to save putting the car off the road while they were being cleaned) Engine / injectors off this had only done 14k  Just shows you

I don't have anything further to add to the thread with regards to what to check on the car.

However, I really cannot see weather conditions leading to a 10% reduction in MPG achived.

i went to dorset today from cambridge and got about 370ish miles out of a tank?but that is low even for me?

  black ph2 172
i have never got over 280 to a tank, i do drive b roads all the time but keep a constant 70 ish so should still manage 300-320 easy but never do.

Same for me . I always average around 280 miles to a tank on my 182 , same as i did on my 172 .

Some people figures in these mpg threads amaze me

So your averaging over 400 miles to a full tank ??? I doubt that very much :quiet:

i always calculate my mpg every time i fill up with good old maths, i dont trust the computer, plus i dont have one (one of the 172's Renault bodged together) i never get more then 31 no matter how i drive ,dont know how people get 39-40 plus they must be pushing it.

I dont know why people are trying to achieve 35mpg plus, as much is it plausible it wasnt intended to get 360-400 miles to a tank.

I always get between 29-33 mpg all day long, obviously long motorway stints make about 38mpg but its rare thats done.

If you want power and economy buy a VRS

I love how sporadic the results always are in these threads. I'm amazed how many miles some people get and equally amazed at how few miles some others get.

I have always expected at least 340 from a tank and only use Vpower but i have to admit that i was surprised that i only achieved 315 when i had to fill up yesterday.

Strange.

I dont know because i never run the tank out but like i said, the mpg never drops below mid 30's and averages in the 40's on the weekly run too and from the gf's and thats spirited driving and drop down overtakes

If i let it go to the light and a bit i can get around 315, otherwise 300 before light shines

I have no idea how some people get 230 miles to a tank out of a 172 :S i got more than than from my Z3M lol ... if i dont get 350 miles i ask myself why and even did 420 out of a tank the other day ;)

Trip computer average is 37 - 43mpg generally, depending on how much mway i do at 75-80mph. More mway, more mpg.

I do 30k a year though, so tbf, thats not 30k a year around town :rasp:

Even then my car could say 38mpg but only gives me 310 to a tank 90% m'way? Do u coast everywhere?

Happens by accident in my case due to the type of roads the car gets driven on. Cant complain about driving to a personal freshhold and still returing blinding mpg levels

Nah, just stick to the speed limits when im doing work miles, so on Friday i ended up getting 43mpg on the trip computer. On personal 80-85 is the mph and 37 is the mpg :)

Tbh, my 172 cup is far better than my 182 was on mpg, that used to average 34mpg.

how can you compare different cars miles per tank. i know somebody with a 5 litre tvr v8 who gets 500 miles from a tank, it is 200 litre enduro tank though. its meaningless

and to compare mpg in general is pointless. it depends entirely how and where you drive. my drive to work is 30 minutes in traffic and i usually dont get more than 20mpg which is 220 miles on a brimmed tank.

Because the Z3M has the same size fuel tank .... subsequently i was getting more mpg out of that (commuting through W. London) than some of you lot get out of 172's :S

The comparison purely proved my astonishment at the shocking mpg of some peoples 172s.

  Clio TCe + Corsa VXR
My 172 cup does 300 miles to a tank full every time (full tank to the light 1st coming on) i ignore wot the computer says tho , since it says over 400 miles left when full up , and i know for a fact it wont squeze 100 miles on the light coz i tried it and it ran out at little over 35 miles !

  182
mpg will depend on how you drive, as soon as i put my foot down for 5min the needle drops a notch.

I don't even bother checking anymore..

  Ph1
Cold weather drops the mpg but come on, its hardly winter! Lowest its been is 5 degree so far lol

MPG drop is probably to do with the weight of the wolley jumpers you soft folk are wearing :rasp:

  RB 182 & Lotus Evora
The mpg reading from the car is an Average totalled over the miles that youve done, and the miles your currently doing. You real mpg reading will be changing continiously depending on gear and rpm and gradient of road etc.

A good indication i guess would be total amount of miles per tank of fuel. I never see less than 320 miles before i need to fill up. Motorway driving ive had 380 to the tank....

I think its a lot to do with oils used and possibly ageing lambda sensor.
