My 2.0 engine

C

clio172cup20

Sounds terrible latley..
Even once its warmed up its sounds so tappet(ie)
Not as smooth as it used to be through the revs,,,,
It has 36k on the clock... 52reg Cup172....

Any advice...?!?
Oil has been changed...
everything is standard....
Is it just the car showing its wear?!?

think mine has this prob too... how much oil is it using roughly?

Edit: actually matt, or anyone in the know - would "followers" cause an increased use of oil? cheers

followers 7700107555 £20.99 + vat each

Matt, What does that mean?!?

With ref to the Oil question, It seems to drink oil at the recommended rate...
I did put to much in at one point but it has now returned to the normal rate. Hope it didnt cause any damage.

Does yours sound the same?!?

hmm ok fella.. well.. according to reno, they say its "fine" for the engine to use 1L of oil per 800/1000 miles... i think this is b0llocks to be honest as loads of people on here dont use a drop.... i use about 1L to every 600/700 miles... every OTHER weekend for me at the moment! pain in the arse

hey mine has started to use about 1L every 2 weeks, thought i had a leak, maybe i do, its getting expensive now, done 71k miles. thats about 450 miles

followers are tappets.. in the f4r they are hydrolic (sp) when the go (seals wear out or they become worn they knock and make a classic tappit sound

uprated tappets I can only assume...?!?
Do i need 16 then?!?

16 * 20.99 = 335.84 OUCH!!

You can some times save them by removing them and poping them in a adapted vice to drain the oil. then re feed them pop them in and your sorted if your lucky.

also to remove tappets / lifters. the inlet comes off, then the cam cover, cam belt, pullys, cam ladders, camshafts then you can remove and replace the lifters

16 * 20.99 = 335.84 OUCH!!
+ labour mate..... but would ALL 16 go?..

Also, does yours only make a strange noise at certain revs.. if i rev mine it makes a rattley noise at between 1400-1700rpms then fine till the needle drops back through this rav band again...

uprated ones are poo imo.. unless your going to be running v.high revs on a spec'd engine in which case you will then need a solid lifter conversion.

stick to oem imo

mine just sounds horrible...
Too much Ragging i think...
Its what you get aint it?!?!

do you mean the fuel rail guard there mate?.. naa its not that as ive tightended that already as it did work loose before... yeh 2x13mm bolts

yea .. ahh ok.. well as long as you have £600.00 the followers can be sorted. eeekkkk!

check you spark plugs are in tight too... !!!!!!!!!!!

hehe bugger..

Yeh new spark plugs a couple of months ago, so guessing theyre fine...

bums... one thing, do worn followers inrease oil usage yeh? also what would happen if it was just left? im assuming it would get worse and blow up yeh?

no they shouldnt increase oil usage...thats nomally worn rings hehe, do you get black smoke from the zorst?

although i was told that renault quote an acceptable tolerance for f4r using oil is 1ltr per 1000 miles lol!
