My car has broken aswell!

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Turned the engine on to go to Tescos, and it kept revving on its own, then cutting out, then coming back on again, then revving on its own, then cutting out.. keeps doing this.

All on its own.

I have rang the AA, they're on their way. What could it be?.. Dirty connectors??... grr this car is annoying me now :(

Haven't even moved the car out of the garage yet.

at a guess i would have said the throttle body or accelerator pedal sensor if u do not have cable or the tdc sensore, hope aa man sorts it for you

  BMW M135i
Needs to have any fault codes read, will most likely be either the throttle pedal or throttle body. I'd think body if its not idling.

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
no faults were detected by the AA mans machine.

he found the idle control the lil box at the back of the engine the wires have gone right to the metal.

i am really annoyed, coz i only had my car serviced by renault last week, and they didn't find it!

and the bloody t***s are closed till monday.

Costly & common problem.

Needs a new wiring loom replacement.

The loom itself is approx £148.65+VAT and your looking at a similar amount in labour to fit (non Renault)

No other way around this.

Also after fitting the car will need a full CliP Reset using Renault machine, at probably there £68+vat charge.

If you need more info let me know.

had this on my old 1.2. basically the black box comes loose and chomps its way through the loom.

£400 should sort it.

unless you can chop the loom up and bridge the gaps, speak to a auto electician

Can i just not electrical tape it?

No, this does not work really.

There are too many wires in the loom to make this work properly.
You will have to cut more to get access.

The only way is to replace the loom.

The fault as mentioned lies on the black box that sits there to protect it.

The metal edge cuts into the loom and also allows water in.

It is a costly job.

Renault prices will be v.high.

See if you can find a specialist or an independant company who deals with wiring looms.

It WILL require a CliP Rest after tho....

So £400 to get this fixed?..

Why didn't Renault detect this problem or find this problem wen i had the car serviced about a week ago?!!?

there thick. its a arse to remove the black cover .. they wont check out of goodwill LOL

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
btw the cover is held on by a threaded wheel. you need a pin or needle to roll the wheel round and round to relase the box

youve got me worrying now!

is there anything that can be done to prevent it?

Prevention - Yes!

Remove the black box cover.

Add more tape to the wiring loom (do NOT disconnect while battery is connected)

I added some washer hose cut in half over the metal box. This stops the edge cutting into the loom.

Replace the box making sure its secure (wont cut the loom as much)

Do not simply remove the metal covering as its there to prevent water from getting in!!

Not a regular check Renault do.

This was a known issue previously by them. The replacement loom is modified slightly to help with this altho they wont admit any responsibility about it.

you lot have to be joking!!!!!!!
£300 job!
You dont need a new loom at all, ive done loads we had a week we had 2 in the same day with all different faults leading down to that box rubbing through the wires.

remove the top half of the box, disconnect battery, unbolt the ecu and unplug the connecter to remove the bottom half of the box.
find the wires that have rubbed through and if you want to do the job properly cut the wires resolder them with heatshrink tubing then tape up the whole loom (as we do) or you could just tape each indivdual wire.
we charge an hours labour including clearing codes so 46+vat.

This is a prime example of how sites like this can really save you lot of money!

Aye, had this too. Reno wanted circa £400 to fix it all, but they told me it was about 4 different things all causing the same problem.

Thats very cheap including using the CliP machine!

Its an arse of a job re-soldering each individual wire in the loom.
With hardly any room to get to them.

Also there is a replacement (modified) loom with new top and bottom bracket to replace the old one.

its dead easy to repair the wires. it took me a few goes to sus how the box comes apart but thats about it. - we dont use CLiP,, we use a crypton proscan that does the job perfectly. it throws up all different fault codes that are all easily cleared.
out of the amount of them ive done ive never yet seen it cause any damage to other components..
i had one come back that we repaired and it came back a week later with loss of power that we found to actually be a map sensor (not sure if that was related)

the reason renault will sell you a new loom is because the way main dealers work they all work on bonus schemes and its not profitable for them to repair the wiring when they could run to the stores get a loom and charge the labour time for fitting it.
where as its not profitable for us to have the car sitting about waiting for a loom when we can spend 20 mins max repairing the loom.
