My car sounds like a Cooper S!

There is an incredible whining noise coming from the engine, rises and falls with the engine rpm, so its not gbox related, can only describe it as sounding exactly like the supercharger on a cooper S. Car has done this since ive had it, car drives completely fine, Ive looked all round the engine, nothing seems out of the ordinary, no small children trapped under the bonnet or anything either....is it something to worry about? anyone else had similar?

idler bearing on the aux belt. Usually the bottom one.

had mine replaced 12k miles ago and its just going again....

turn the radio up, its a pain in the arse!

I've got a quiet whinning which sounds like a supercharger at the moment, can only hear it if your listening for it. Guess it must be this, doesn't do it all the time though generally only when its hot and its getting some thrash.

Yes mine did the same and it was a bearing that had worn on one of the auxiliary belt pulleys.

I had my idler belt changed a while back too, Mike@Rentech did mine, iirc it didn't cost to much.

does the fuel pump sometime whine like that, a subtle whine though!
