So, the deal fell through.
Here’s a quick run down of evens.
1) guy contacts me and arranges to come view the car. He turns up, takes an initial look and then we go for a drive, he drives and is happy. We get back, and he spends another hour or so looking over the car before going to think about it.
2) guy contacts again, asking for pictures of some other bits, pictures of the underside etc etc
3) guy decides he wants the car. We come to an agreement on price and he states he wants to pick it up on Saturday.
4) Saturday comes and I get a message stating that he can’t make it but will come Sunday.
5) Sunday comes and he contacts AGAIN saying he can’t make it. On this occasion he offers a deposit of £200 and I tell him if I receive that I will knock it off eBay etc. He sends £200 and I delete my classified on eBay and remove the advert of Facebook.
6) Today comes and he turns up late again. I walk out with the v5 in my hand ready to do the deal. He says he has seen another on similar mileage for less money. I thought that a little strange as he had bought mine. He then starts looking over the car again, like, properly looking over it. I’m thinking, what’s going on here, I thought you’d just be taking it. He then spots some minor dents on the bonnet where someone has clearly pushed down to shut the bonnet (I think I’ve had this on most of my clios). He then turns to me and says;
‘I’ve changed my mind, can I have my deposit back?’
To which I replied;
‘Erm, no’.
He then states.
‘That’s a quick way to make £200’
To which I reply;
‘Not really as you have fucked me about all week’
His mrs then pipes up and says;
‘Did you mention those dents on the advert?’
To which I replied;
‘They were there a week ago when your partner spent 2hrs looking over the car.’
It all got a little awkward then. I told him that I was a bit annoyed he’d wasted my time. He eventually decided to leave and I kept the £200.
I don’t think I was an arsehole. What’s the point of a deposit if you’re just gonna give it back?
