>>my clio loses power..look in please>&

im new here so not sure where to post this, but....ive got a renault clio 1.2rn and its driving me MAD! it loses power all the time! ok i know its a 1.2 but ive driven loads of cars like this and had no problems, everytime i accelerate it suddenly dies (not completely) just stops going fast like as soon as i change gear its ok for about 2 seconds then it just dies! my friend used to have the car hes taken it through tuning, been serviced time upon time..and loads more but cant find the prob. he also changed the whole exhaust system(he bought a second hand one) but still no joy, its driving me mad as its a project car i want to get this fixed, i might be buying another exhaust system off a mate of mine for a tenner and im going to hopefully fix this tomorrow and hopefully itll do the job ive also been told to buy a 1.4 ecu and it might do the trick, i dont know has anyone has this trouble before? or does anyone know what i can do? the car is all completely standard ive done no engine mods what so ever! also it uses LOADS of fuel so this might be the prob? like if i put £10 in i can do about 20 miles then its gone! or less then that, i mean it used alot so i think theres a prob there to, any ideas? anyone? please please help!

is this the multi point injection system on the pushrod engine?

my RT has fuelling probs, the injector doesnt seem to want to flow constantly, sometimes its jerky and has little power, mines under fuels, but yours sounds over fueled. Does it blow allot of smoke?

Check the plugs. DO a quick blast full throttle to 3rd gear, switch off ignition immediately, coast to a stop. Remove plugs and inspect.
Black & sooty = rich and running cold
Clean & crispy white = very lean (BAD!)
light toasty brown is just right.
if its black and wet, its burning oil. If its got brown speckles on it, its pinking or detonating.

Sort it out!!!

a 1.4 ecu will be of no use.....try looking at the potentiometer.

Bad Boy i had a similar problem with a 306 xSI some time ago. It was blowing great clouds of black smoke out the back and absolutely drinking petrol and also exhibited the same sort of dying under power. Turned out the lama sensor had gone and it was chucking far too much fuel into the engine.Only way to check this is with electronic diagnostic thingy!

you can check the lama sensor with a decent voltmeter. just wire it directly to the sensor.

When the mixture is stoichiometric, itll read 0.5 volts. and vary between 0.2 volts for rich and 0.8 when weak.

Definitely a fuelling problem - dont wanna get technical so Ill stick to obvious things - have you got a fuel leak before the fuel rail? If so youll be losing a hell of a lot of fuel and when you floor it youll get the sudden surge then lose pressure as it goes lean.

Have you checked your plugs to see what they are like? Take it to a MOT station and get the emissions checked that will tell you the state of your air/fuel mix.

Fuel doesnt last very long....hmmmm, Forget fuel filter, Stop spending money on it willy nilly, You wont get anywhere, Exhaust i cant see helping one bit.

Hey dude, ive got the same kinda problem with u and ive had it diagnosed by a technician. I think its the same problem and im about 90% sure thats its the lama sensor. Ive been meaning to get round to it and fit a new one, but im busy. Its pretty cheap and easy to fit apparantly. So if u change the lama sensor, tell me how it goes.

woah! cheers for the replys peeps! ALOT of people have now told me its the lama sensor, im going to try get hold of one as soon as poss and will let you guys know if it works, as for the plugs they was all changed not long ago! but ill check and take a few out to see the condition i dont know about any leaking fuel at the moment but ill have a check on that aswell to see if theres any noticable leaks, its had the fuel filter air filter oil filter and a lot more changed in a recent service so i doubt its them, one thing though before i do anything, can anyone point me in the right direction as where the lama sensor is? that will be abit of help..lol. i was told its at the front of the engine oposite the radiator? is that right?

look along youe exhaust system, its either on the manifold, or futher down the sytem on the front pipe,
near the cat (if its got one?), not haing seen this car before, its along there somewhere.
its just looks like a probe in the exhast system.
