my clio!!! nightmare

After my clio cut out on me on x.mas eve,thinking it may have been the cam belt i rang the R.A.C and got towed to my house, he had a quick gander took the rocker cover off and opend the oil cap, told me to turn the key, car was trying to start and he could see the camshaft moving so the good news was the belt hadnt snapped!! I had it taken by the R.A.C last sat then to the garage that i take my lorry's for servicing, knowing i can trust them, i rang them this morning to see if they had a chance to look it yet, his first words back to me.... its totaly fu**ed m8, :S said i had over revved the engine??WTF I told him i was doing no more than 80 when i lost all drive, he said hes got to take the head off to have a proper look but he thinks that the rods ect have probably gone everywhere, and iv also got a piece of aluminium in my air intake so where the f**k that has come from is news to me!! any way got to phone back in a few days to see how its looking, it doesnt sound to good anyway, how much roughly would i be looking at? isit cheaper to buy a new engine? the last thing im going to do it is scrap it or rite it off, any help or info much appreiciated

Get it looked at for a second opinion if you think your being taken for a ride or something. If it really is as bad as he says its more than likely engine out job depending on the damage and if thats the case may be more economical to get another 1 if its cheap enough.
Nightmare though mate!

Whats the symptoms anyway? Does it start / Run / make noise??

i trust them, they do loads of my work on my lorry and everytime iv had a problem with my car i send it to them, i dont understand how it can have so much damage when the cam belt hasnt broke, even the R.A.C guy said it sounds nasty and expensive!!!!

He doesn't have to know you've gotten a 2nd opinion matey, but I'd be suspicious if someone told me the reason my engine had broken into a million pieces was because I'd over-revved it!

well il leave it untill wed because thats when i pick my lorry up from them, il see it then so il know where to go from there.. gutted though to say the least.
How much does a 182 engine go for??

Try and get hold of joshydee on here mate, he has a clio spares company and is always breaking 1*2's.

iv sent him pm already, it dosent start or run!!! didn try to bump it either,

iv said b4 the only way can discribe it as if im starting the engine with out petrol itl tick tick tick phhhh, got a little back fire burp when the RAC guy tryed it, he thinks the timing is out, maybe the belt had jumped he siad and now all the timing is out,

didnt have any noise when it happend just cut out, and wouldnt start again. as i came of the road i tryed to bump it back to life but no go, it just cut out and the lights came on as if id just turned the egnition on, no warning lights ect.... pickled my head.
