My Computer lists my dvd rw as a cd drive?

im sure it used to show it as a dvd rw drive when i clicked my computer. Now it just shows cd drive, although it still plays dvds.

what could have occured?

It's just Windows being stupid as you come normal, it might even fix it by rebooting it.

i rebooted it hasnt changed anything. I uninstalled the drive then turned the machine off and on but still only says cd drive in my computer not "DVD RW"


if i right click on the drive in my computer it lists it as a cd drive (Type- CD Drive) when in actual fact its a dvd rw drive, any ideas why mate?

windows has always listed all my dvd drives of different makes as a cd drive. Don't worry about it, it will still work ok.

only thing is not sure if its liinked to me now being able to use media player 10 to burn cds,if i try it just says,
""no cd or dvd burner has been detected. press f5 to refresh the list"

Right click 'My Computer' -> Manage -> Device Manager -> under 'DVD/CD-ROM drives' see what it lists there?

it does show the dvd rw drive in there and i can burn a cd using say realplayer but like i said if i go to my computer it only shows it as a cd drive and windows media player says"
no cd or dvd burner has been detected. press f5 to refresh the list" if i try to burn a cd using it.

try getting some new drivers from your hardware providers website.

try nero for burning and make sure your drive's firmware is up-to-date.

Just google the make and model of your drive and add "firmware" after it.

tried all that wasnt having any of it. ive just done system restore to 4 days ago and the drive is now called DVD RW again.

still not sure why ctl and c aint working.

seems to show cd drive sometimes when i boot up other times dvd rw. oh well..
