My Donington Track Day - 27th December

Just a few piccies of my newly acquired Ph2 172 at its first trackday last week...

The track was VERY greasy indeed and only started to get drier on the last two session in the afternoon which unfortunately meant I couldnt fit my slicks, and which also meant the car tended to understeer badly and just want to go forward in the corners! LOL!

But still I loved it all the same, the car was faultless really apart from the backbox coming off its hangers but I think thats more to do with a dodgy engine mount than anything else.

Standard brakes never faded or felt shoddy which I was very impressed with.

I had a couple of positive comments on the day from....

An Evo driver - '....where the hell did you come from, you just suddenly appeared out of nowhere......and how the hell do you do round the corners that quick in that'

An Evo driver whilst I was lined up in the pits waiting to go out ...'...you'd best go past that EVO like you went me when I was driving it, my mates driving it now & was skitting me cos you went past me & disappeared...' (two laps later I had done as I was told )

Skyline GTS driver - '.....WTF is in that & how did you sit on my bumper all the way down the start finish straight...'

MK2 RS2000 NA Cosworth driver - '.....we had a good tussle there mate but what the hell is in it.....as I've got 231bhp in this & I couldnt shake you...'

Clio Williams Owner - '.....are you going to get a rollcage in there...cos I reckon you need some more weight in there so I can catch you next time...'

All priceless comments which just goes to show you dont need to spend LOADS on having fun.....so bring on the next trackday which is at the beginning of February at Bedford!!!

some questions...

1) is it modified? (I think they track better standard tbh)
2) WTF is that T reg 1.2/172 red and silver thing??
3) Who/what rolled over in the 8th pic up?

1.) Yes but nothing overly mad - decat, magnex exhaust, ITG induction filter, Eibach springs, bonnet pins, stripped interior, Cobra seats & harneses, front & rear strutbraces - dont think I've missed anything.

2.) Thats exactly what it is - its a 1.2 shell with a 172 engine & running gear fitted plus other body bits! LOL Its the reason I went out & bought a 172 - I borrowed it to do a trackday in at Croft earlier this year & I had that much fun in it that I went out & bought mine!!! Unfortunately to my mates disgust mines quicker as I passed him quite easily twice - once on the uphill section & once on the back straight....PH Quick....I dont think so...plus he was on 15" wheels! LOL!

3.) Its an XR2i that went sideways into the kitty litter & did a bit of gymnastics - noone was hurt and he was laughing about it afterwards!

i remember seeing the red/silver 1.2/172 at the ring(and black sooby abit dented) when i was there in my 182, also saw it at croft in september just after the ring and i was there in the 16v trackcar(blackcar/orange cage), think i recognise the williams too, looks like the one that was at donny back in june when the track was practically flooded! he owns a cossie of somesort aswell iirc

I was at the ring when they where there but wasnt driving the red/silver 172 then, you'll probably of seen another white scoob RA, yellow porker (That incidently got smashed), I was the one driving the red/silver clio at Croft, and yes that will of been him back in June in the Willy as he goes alot - hes got a few cars, think hes got an RS500 as well!!! Nice bloke to talk to!!

yeah i do remember the yellow porker and think i remember the scooby RA, you see the yellow BMW M3 after it jumped the barriers at the ring? well battered that car!

i was there in my artic blue 182 with my mate is his silver v6(mk2) aswell as a few focus RS's, was great fun!

i was watching from the stands most of the croft trackdays, lent my trackcar to my mate(nice arnt i!) lol

there was a lad coming up to me after the donington trackday i did when it nailed it down, asked if mine was turbo'd or something as i flew past him lol, 333bhp blue scooby and my 1.8 16v 140bhp lol i think i was just being braver!

some good pics though! love donington, been there loads of times! cant wait to go back too!!!

Richy - Yeah I've seen pics of that M3....mullered - big shame!!! I cant wait to do Croft again next year - loved that day - the red/silver clio took a thorough caning that weekend!!! Was running slicks too - managed to muller 3 slicks over the weekend! LOL! I've done Donington a few times too in various cars - very very slippy in the wet!!!

my mate pissed some white evo driver off in my clio lol think he was annoyed that he was overtaken going into the final siries or bends before the start/finish straight! was also slick shod lol

btw barron ive just been told its mike rainbird in the white esc cossie i was talkin to! so if there was 3 white cossies there could of been any!

im hoping to get on next year in it! not done croft yet

Richy - MIke Rainbirds Essy Cos is a serious bit of machinery, built to go round track very very quickly indeed to put it mildly. Hes an expert at the Nurburgring also. He wasnt on track at Dono though although he was there.
