My First 16v!

I have just put the deposit down for a Clio 16v! my first one.

It is well looked after, pretty much mint condition, FSH, 61,000 miles and standard.

I need some advice on what to do to it first?

what mods? cambelt change yet? any rules to maintain it well?

please help

phil

16vs dont respond well to simple mods in terms of power, although an induction kit an exhaust will make it sound fantastic. Beyond this, most owners stick with a chip and de-cat - again, no major power, but they make it a little more driveable. Mods get expensive after this, though head work/cams/forced induction are the way to go for more power.

Most people tend to prefer the outside as standard too - who needs more than fat arches, bonnet bulge and wide bumpers? Ive just stuck back on some original Phase2 wheels too.

Theres no secret to maintaining the cars - just change the oil every 3-6,000 miles and get handy with the spanners (16vs are fairly maintenance intensive).

You could follow my example for exterior mods. Simply put something solid under the bonnet and then slam it down hard. Hey presto! A seconds bonnet bulge!

I second the cam belt getting changed earlier rather than later. Mine snapped at 61,000 and caused a right mess!!!

Check everything on the car thouroughly. Change the cambelt straight away better to do it before it snaps and causes a right mess.

Dont do too many standing starts as the 16v Gearbox can be a little on the weak side, drop down to 3rd and flat out in 4th and 5th is fine for the box.

Enjoy the car, and learn to drive it properly using the powerband to its best ability for optimum performance.

A 16v RULE - if you come across a saxo you must cain it and if you see another 16v or williams a little flash of your lights is aways appreciated!

hmmmm....

But I agree about the flash to other 16v/Willy drivers - its one of the Ten Commandments (it being Easter Sundau and all!).

Rhys watch it son hehehe!

Not all Saxos are as fast as craggy, and most cant drive like craggy!

I have done the flash before but the other valvers round here are owned by c***s!

CHANGE THE CAMBELT!
