My first visit to renault..

  Anything from the fleet

..is tomorrow morning. My car is going in to get the faulty engine temp sensor looked at which in turn affects the idle speed of the car. Now my only worry is that as the problem is one which only appears after the car has either pulled away from a standstill at a decent speed, or you rip it past 5k through the gears. This isnt much of a problem, but the thing im really worried about is the grease monkey at parks replicating it, and totally abusing my car. Are they likely to do this, or will it simply be a matter of plugging the laptop into the ecu and diagnosing the fault?

appreciate the advice

cheers

My Clio goes in on tuesday for the 3rd attmept to fix the idle speed. Last time they only drove it for 2 miles (I took a note of the mileage) and they just re programmed the ECU but surprise surprise this did not solve the problem. Again like you it only happens when car fully warm and if you have had it over 5k revs. I have explained this to them so I guess they will have to take it on a longer test run as nothing showed up on the ECU last time! BTW what Parks garage u go to? As its Parks in Dunfermline I bought mine from.

Im going to the parks in east kilbride, its also booked in at arnolds on saturday incase parks cant fix it! ill obviously note the mileage, but how do i make sure they find the problem without ripping my car past 5k?! can i take them out in it to show them?

cheers

I see no reason why you cannot take them out in the car to show them the problem. Once they have fixed it then no doubt they will need to take the car out and take it over 5k to make sure the problem has gone. I know it is not nice when you think of them ragging your car but unfortunately there is not much you can do apart from finding a dealer that you trust.

They could rev the engine to thee redline form cold for all you know in the workshop and it would never show on the clock.

Id say either got to a place with a viewing gallery, make a note of the milage and hope there gentle or just trust them.
