My Golf GTI

Well the clio went last week and I have just picked up my new Golf GTI.

This is my second, previously had a Tornado Red one, which turned out to be a nail.

This one feels so much stronger and tighter and everything feels like it left the factory yesterday, not six years ago!

It has a full (mainly VW dealer) service history and is on 56K miles.

Also has the optional 18's and an armrest! It had to have one, best thing about the car!

The black paintwork is almost pearlescent and looks amazing in the sunlight.

The dealer photos for now, I'll get some better ones at the weekend.

Fcuk me you don't hang about!

Lovely mate. I just couldn't cope with a black car. Would drive me mentally insane.

Very nice :) whats the MPG like on these?

Not as good as the Clio on the motorway, did 35 back from Manchester, but about the same round town ~26 mpg.

Black was the last colour on my list Dan actually, but went for condition and history over colour...

Turns out it really suits it, better than the red I had before.

Love it. I prefer the 18"s as well, although I know a lot don't. They desperately need xenons though IMO. Finishes the front off nicely.

I think they were nearly a £1K option. So it's no surprise they're hard to find.

Just got one for the Mrs but with the 17's. What did you pay if you don't mind me asking? PM me if you want.

back in the club ;)

i love my arm rest, thought about fitting a nav? I don't think I could own a car without the nav again just to finish the dash off

More than 8 but less than 9 ;)

I was looking at the touchscreen head units but it needs a cambelt so that's priority for now.

Nice! Hows the drive compared to the Clio?

Bloody love that. Perfect spec (IMO)

Cheers! Handles well for a car double the size, and on "Goodride" tyres!!!

I've been really tempted by one of these lately. Need to have a drive in one I think. Looks great though mate, I keep looking at the edition 30.

Love these!

cant get on with the wheels though! If I had one, that'd be the first thing I'd change.

I hate the wheels so much, they are awful, really awful, I told you this when they were on your last one :p

Get some ED30 wheels imo.

Nice car otherwise, when we going to RST for a RR day? :rasp:

That would be.... Never! ha. Not after last time.

I feel like the wheels let it down a bit, other than that its cool!

The wheels are abit marmite, people either like them or hate them. I personally like them.

Looks nice, just couldn't cope with those seats personally. Enjoy it.

The seats are the best seats Ive ever sat in, and are actualy Recaros (marked underneath).

The tartan pattern doesnt come accross well in photos though.

Pretty much the same as what i did but i got them to do the power steering pump, cambelt and wheels as part of the deal.

Have you read up on pcv, diverter valave and cam follower issues?

I know a good VW specialist in Huddersfeld so it will be going there in March for a full service/cambelt etc.

I dont want to be reading up on problems, it wil make me paranoid.

Although my last one had a hole on the DV and made a whistling noise on boost - this one doesnt make the same sound and pulls noticably stonger :)

Lol dont worry they are common issues but really cheap fixes aswell. They have released revised parts which just keep the car running well etc.

Are you planning on doing any mods? Statler in Sheffield have a few sets of s3/r32 brakes which bolt straight on for reasonable money.

If theres any problems Im sure they will be spotted and sorted then :)

Its both mine and the GF's daily so want to keep it pretty much standard really.

The brakes feel fine for our daily use at the moment.

Looks lovely, does need an RNS510 though ... oh, and a remap ;)

Also, it might be worth your while pulling one of the wheels of the check the part numbers, they dont look genuine to me, offset seems slightly wrong and the colouring is way off (unless they've been refurbed). The Goodride tyres might also suggest they were a cheapo package deal off ebay.

Dave, Im 99.9% sure they are Mk6 Shadow Monza reps.

Like you say the offset is a give away, the fonts look like they have spacers!

Im not too fussed for now though as they are quite good reps.

Nice car to share with the missus, good all rounder.
I think I'd find it boring though! I like the seats, but hate the wheels, they look so halfords!

Very nice mate, blacks my favourite colour for these but i just couldnt own one for obvious reasons!

Xenons are a nightmare to find on a spec you want, i wanted leather and xenons in 5 doors but they are almost non existent!

Part of the reason why i just went for the R32, all the good bits are standard ;)

By the time you've specced up the Golf, you might as well just pay the extra fuel on the proper engined one.
