My new car

Focus was on it's way out, 4 corroded springs at recent MOT and 124k + lots of wear and dings.

So...I've been thinking about one for these for about two years now, and last night finally thought "f*** it" why not.

Decided on £2k cost-to-change as a limit and hoped for £1k on the Focus giving me £3k to play with.

This is what I ended up with...

Gave it a couple 0-100 runs on the airstrip coming home, it's fine through to 3rd, but gets a bit asthmatic in 4th. Video to follow.

Thanks to all those who advised via PM, very helpful.

I was chasing one of those through some backroads in wales and it was impressive, obviously not as quick as the clio but it did very well. I tried getting my little brother to buy one. I'd certainly consider one.

Reckon it'll make a good daily runner?

40+ mpg easily achievable, front or rear discs + pads are £80 a set, when you wind it up it really gets up and f***s off. I LOLd lots on the way home...the brakes are phenomenal, and the pedal set up is perfect for heal/toe and/or left-foot braking. In short, it's a rally car, built so Suzuki could go racing. It feels every bit like one.

Nice!

Get some proper pics ;)

Definitely looks better in the low light

Don't give a f*** really though, it's how it drives and feels that counts for me.

Needs a decent polish, anyone down South who can do the job properly?

PM me what/when/how/much etc. if so.

Good little cars these. Tried to persuade my grandad to get one as a run around.

It doesn't look too slow either. Definately enough punch for a daily driver.

Saxo VTR I bet it'd be on par with. VTS though... nah.
Awesome little cars for the money though.

I just checked quickly and says VTS's are 0-60 in 8.7 very close and all down the driver.

I don't know where you got that information. Their book time is 7.6 IIRC.
The 106 GTi's book time was 8.7 and that's the same car as the VTS, and it's common knowledge that Peugeot tested the car at half load to make it appear slower and get it in a lower insurance group.
A Saxo VTS / 106 GTi that gets thrashed often loosens up no end and WILL be quicker than 7.6 to 60 if launched correctly. The gearbox won't thank you though.

Vts/106 gti will be quicker than that Suzuki or a ZS

Yeah for 10k more you can have a clio Mark.

So what are we talking? Fiesta ZS comparisons?
I pulled away from an ST in mine when one came flying up behind me, very capable cars for such a little engine.

I'm glad you liked it Mark, although if I'd known where you found a 55reg for £3k I would have raced you to get to it haha!

I think the other driver ran out of talent, but in a straight line they were even. I know that the STs are underpowered for a 2.0 but still I was very impressed at the time heh.

Yeah he must have at least 20bhp on you so seems strange but I wouldn't underestimate that suzuki at all.

I remember driving one of these when we were looking for a replacement for the wifes car back in 04, A bright yellow one with larger spec turinnis and a WRC S1600 decal set on it bloody brilliant fun and quite a strong rev hungry top end on it, I loved it but sadly the wife had the last word.

Looks good Mark enjoy it!!

Good choice Mark. I nearly bought one in October, last year. But held fire and ended up buying a 55 plate 1.2 Panda in January. The Panda is fine A-B, going to work, etc.... But sooooooooooooo slow. The Panda's got four doors though...

Thanks christ I still have my R27.

It is a cracking price for the age/mileage, very much doubt you could find anything else that new/reliable/safe and fun for anywhere near that money, SportKa would probably be next on the list.

I thought I got a steal (£2400 for an 04 on 70k), good job most people can't get past the looks really, makes them cheaper for those of us who couldn't care less about such things.
