My Rebuild....

  German Barge

Well as some of you know, i have had so unfortunate luck over the last month or so... but after a LONGGGGGG day yesterday we did the following..

Removing the gearbox, removing the clutch, removing the flywheel and then FINALLY the crank and big ends. - undoing god knows how many bolts, lost count... some were right gits lol... looking forward to putting it back

anyway ITS OUT!!! and when i got it out, i kid you not, i picked it up held it above my head (heavy f***er!!) and ran round the pub car park with people looking at me shouting "i got it!! i got it!!" lol, was rather amusing...

anyway, less talk and more pictures... as you will see, we did it with the engine in the car...ouch...

Shows the crank out...

aye........ i have to say ill walk away from this a lot more in touch with how it all works, where it all goes etc etc.

Looking forward to the work paying off, and actually driving it from that spot where it has been "dead" for 4 weeks, lol.

well, the bloke doing it knows what he is doing.. he is giving me a guiding hand... without his patients i would have given up along time ago... he dont give up... hardest things were a) the sump and b) the plastic pully cover thingy.... mad.. would have thought gearbox, and clutch would have been an issue....

one thing i wouldnt have done normally, but, thought why not... its got to be done... and just went for it... had a few moments where i felt like saying "stuff it" and give it to someone else to have a look at, but i wanted to do this one... just to say, i wont be beaten lol... mad, but this this car and me have a longggg history lol...

Sump on the 172 is no different, complete b*****d, clever renault made it so you have to drop the subframe, you can see that labour bill clocking up nicely!

Chris, Ive got to do the clutch on my valver. Is it ok to get to it with just moving the box out of the way?

I thought the engine and gearbox had to come out?

Thanks for the info, My clutch is slipping like a b1tch.

no the crank shaft david lol...........

and yes, you can do the clutch with the engine in the car... just had to work with getting the gearbox out enough to take it out...

Took us a while... but once you do the gearbox, the rest is pretty much simple.

Wouldnt like to do it again though. Was going to change the clutch while it was out, but loads left on it, may lighten the flywheel though.

been a chor, wont deny that. Would certainly rather have not done it lol...

I just wanna get it right so when the next person gets it, its sorted...

Going to get it all sorted, run it in for 500 miles then just leave it to sell.

Be sound as a pound once finished, just a shame i wont be the one to benefit from it.
