My Toxic Fume Monitoring Warning Light came on?

  Megane RS 275 Trophy
Hi all can any body help me with this one?

My Toxic Fume Monitoring Warning Light came on today I have a standard exhaust no DE-cat and as you can see from the pic the car has done 53736 miles and by the look of the pic (IT NEEDS A BLOODY GOOD CLEAN:eek: )

Am I OK to use the car or do I need to get this sorted if I get it sorted what needs doing and at what sort of cost?

Don't worry about it, it will probably go off in a few days.

If it doesn't you could check the lambda sensors that go into the exhaust haven't come loose.

Will have a look at that, I have a 150 mile trip tomorrow and was worried about driving the car, so it's fine to drive with the light on?

Should be fine to drive round on you need to find out what the problem is most likly the lambeda sensor brken but it could be anything realy.

I've got an OBD II code reader that can read the fault and reset the light. I'm around St Helens/Warrington etc daily, and Liverpool all other times.

If you came to me I could give you a fault code/list of problem(s).

For nowt obviously

So thats what that light is! Just been out for a quick blat and noticed it come on. My manuals at home and I could'nt work out what it meant. Thought I'd broken it! was a bit worried

Just in time to fail the MOT this month FFS.

PS
Is this definately down to a faulty lambda or could it be my sports cat has become a decat?

rev your engine and see if that sorts the prob out might be a little dirty and the extra revs may blow the dirt out.

It got plenty of revs, trust me ;)

You may be right though. I hav'nt properly driven the car for a couple of weeks (saving money :(). Just driven it a few miles around town, whereas normally it would get driven hard at least once a week. So today I thought I'd treat myself and blow the cobwebs out a bit.

Tony - my membership sub has run out (can't afford £5!!)

John, sports cat will bring on that light no matter, I know it was sold to you with it that, that light would not illuminate but it means nothing.

Come to the shire meet on the 18th and I'll turn it off for you ;)

You may be right. But I've had the cat on for over a year now; seems a bit of a coincidence that the light should come on after a period when my car has been getting such little use (for the first time since I've had it). Then again maybe its just that; a coincidence!

I take it the emmisions light on the dash is not necessarily triggered at the level at which an MOT would be failed? The car passed the emmisions test (fast idle) on the second attempt last MOT. FWIW Charlie at Pro-speed remarked that the cat looked a bit small (diameter) when I had my exhaust fitted, and would perhaps struggle to pass an MOT until it was ''red hot''.
