My warranty Up - Clio needs a service

  172
my clios due its first mot at the end of the month and its 3rd year service. my brother (a peugoet mechanic) reckons i should just buy the parts, seen as my warrantys up, and he'll do the service.

what do renault charge for a big service?

if my bro was to do it for me, what parts do i need and which/wheres the best place to get em?

its a 52reg 172 on 19k

I'm in a similar situation. 52plate 172, need MOT at the end of the month, 30k miles. 36k service due soon - think I will get it done at the dealers as it is the first biggy and hopefully Renault will do a decent job (no smart remarks please! ;) ) and spot anything that should be sorted, and that will keep it running nicely until the next service.

From reading threads on here, dealer prices vary widly so it's worth phoning round.

i would avoid the dearlers, go to a specialist

GDI, Hill Power, RenTech, BB, K-tec etc they all do servicing

even with NEW cars you'll still keep your waranty if you use a VAT registered garage and genuine parts

Yeah, you have a point there. I will see what prices are like when the time comes and how the car has been going...

My thinking was really that if it's always been dealer serviced and anything goes seriously wrong with it I might be able to moan to Renault UK and get them to contribute towards fixing costs... but I'd probably get nothing out of them if it every happened anyway so maybe I'd just be wasting my time!

i had my first mot done at renault, and surprisingly they found that a CV boot needed replacing which they did under warranty. so my advice is get the mot done at renault about 2 weeks before its due, so that any faults can be fixed under the warranty.

the 36k service is quite expensive as a belt needs changing (not cambelt) so u could get ur bro to do it for u

thanks

so if ur 172 was 3yrs old but had only clocked up 19k, would u get the spark plugs and belt changed yet or wait till it hits 36k mark?

I'm hoping to have my 36k BEFORE the 3 years is up at a specialist like GDi etc. Then they can find the bits that need replacing on warranty if there are any problems and have it done inside of the warranty.

Seems too much like an opportunity to spank you for the stealers when the warranty has run out and you roll up for a service and MOT.
