N95 sat nav

  Monaco Blue Mk2
Does this use data transfer? eg uses your monthly data allowence or charges you for uses the sat nav?
I have heard this is the case, if it is, how far will 1Mb inclusive browsing allowance each month get me? is there any way around it?
Also what is the sat nav like on it?

It will but you can download the nokia map loader and load up the entire UK maps from the disk. Need a 2 gig mem card though.

To be honest its hand in an emergency, but you would be better with tomtom etc.

So that avoids getting charged anything from o2 yeah? Sounds good. Would the map take up the full 2 gig mem card?

you dont need a 2 gig memory card, it only takes up a couple hundred meg at most

Just checked. The entire UK takes almost a full gig (900 odd meg) best get a 2 gig mem card as they are only £15 anyway.

And yes, it wont/shouldnt download anything as the maps are already there.

well ive the entire uk map, a good few albums, tomtom+gb map, hundreds of photos etc and all that fits on a 1 gig card with room to spare....

the entire western europe takes up a lot more space, perhaps thats what your thinking of

surely even with the maps loaded, the actual sat nav still costs to use. turn by turn and all that?

Oh, well that's not what I wanted to hear. :dapprove:

Is there any way around this, somebody mentioned a external gps card? Does this avoid any charges? If so where can I get one, how much etc?

using sat nav on n95 does not cost unless it connects to your network to get map info.

but if you use the Nokia Map loader application and pre install maps on your memory card, you will never be charged to use the gps. Its a different signal.

plus, in the options in the Maps application on the n95, if you turn the network access option to "no" after installing maps to your memory card, then you can be sure it wont cost you.

edit, although there are premium services whihc you can add like voice guidance which cost, but these are not essential.

I said "Yep" as he stated you would still get charged if you used the turn-by-turn guidance, which is a premium service. Without it, it will not tell you which way to go other than showing a map on screen with your location and the roads highlighted.

Ah right, cheers mate, I didn't realise that's what the turn by turn bit meant. Thanks for the help.
