Near side front Knocking, 58 plate 197.

  Clio Sport 197
Hi there, i have a knocking noise coming from the front left of my 197.

I have been advised that it could be the ball joint on the lower arm, i was just wondering if any 197 owners can shed some light from experience as to anything else it could commonly be, and if so how it was rectified.

The noise comes when going over bumps, in dips, turning the wheel and with general driving vibrations. Its a slight knock, not a LOUD knock. sounds almost like something rolling around the glove box, its quite a dull thud.

Hope this all makes sense, thanks in advance!

Mine did the same, but unfortunatley they don't have lower arms.
these have an upper and lower ball joint which are actually a part of the hub assembly, you can't replace the ball joints with parts from your usual motor factors as these are a part of the hub itself, so the main route is to work out which ball joint is the culprit and hen taking a trip to renault (these are around £200ea tho)

there is only one place known of to obtain the ball joints, and that's renault sport in Wimbledon, but you will then need someone to remove the complete hub and change the joints over.

Have a look at the lower arm link, it a short bar connected to the arm, mine went on mine and got no ends of a loose knocking noise. Cheaper part aswel

Sorry mate without looking at your car or hearing the noise its very hard to say.

As above, you really need to jack the wheel off the ground and push/pull the wheel vertically amd horizontally, even better, get a mate to do it while you look around the suspension joints. Don't forget to support the car in case the jjack fails though!
