Nearly fainted at the Renault Dealer today

  182FF
Lost my key the other day (wasn't even drunk as well)

Cos i've now only got one key i went to my local Renault dealer today and they quoted me £197 for a new one!

I was actually lost for words and the bloke who told me had a shocked look on his face aswell!

Anybody bought a key recently? Was wondering how much you got your for and if it is worth me shopping around the dealers.

Rich

The majority of the cost comes from them having to programme it into the car does it not? Standard hours labour I think, even if it only takes 5 mins.

Quote consisted of 111 for the key and blade then 86 for the programming!

Did a search and this seems to be the highest quote for a key. Some of the posts though are old so was wondering if anybody had a recent experience

There was a Renault dealer that posted on here... canny mind the user name, maybe give them a PM and see what they can do for you?

New keys are expensive for a reason - it's kind of important that they're special order only ;)

Buy a key (from ebay/ scrappy) then get a blade cut at locksmith, and get them to programme it for you. Must be a way around it, there is with most other makes.

Used keys cannot be re-programmed, they are ECU locked. You'd need a brand new 'blank' key to take to a locksmiths for coding.

Should of had the Adrian Flux Key Care. For an extra £3 a year. You get a new key if you loose a spare, If you loose one and have no spare you get locksmith, Locks, Keys. Even house keys and garage keys, Whats ever on the ket ring. Doenst even cost any excess, and 24hr call out.

All you have to do is have a little tag on you key ring. With phone numbers and reward notice, (that they pay) for who ever finds them

I lost mine and got a brand new one in 3 days.

  None :(
i didn't have a spare key, and didn't want to pay the full wack, at the time i got quoted (roughly) i think around the 150 mark, i was like WTF?!!?!?! But as this wasn't from renault direct, but renault specialist, they suggested, as it was just for a spare, you can buy one that doesnt do the remote unlock, just standard put your key in and turn jobbie, and was soooooooooo cheap..... im trying to rattle my brain as to how much i payed, it was under 50 quid. They messed up the programming to start the car up tho, but got there in the end. So if something happens like i shut the doors with the keys in there (havent done it in 3years but ya never know) and they auto lock again, at least i can get back in the car and or start the car if i lost my main keys.

i went with the adrian flux key care, glad i did now, sounds like its a good service to have, cost an extra 12 pound i think.

Nearest Renault to me is an Evans halsaw and he assurred me I couldn't get just a key it had to be the fob/key. I might try somewhere else and see what they come up with.

That Adrian flux thing is deffinately getting bought. Don't want this happening again!

Yeah I was quoted the exact same price for mine from the stealers, ended up using a Reno specialist down the road for me who done my full service and some other bits, mentioned the key and got one and programmed for £110.. Still, expensive but a lot cheaper then originally quoted!

Perhaps worth seeing if there are any Renault Specialists in the area?

When you say Renault Specialist what do mean exactly? Wud a Renault Evans Halsaw be one because that's where I went?

Flux charged me £12. Its definately worth it though. I haven't lost my keys, and don't take them on a night out which can be a prime time to lose your keys but its still nice to know your fully covered.

I bought a new key fully programmed and cut (unbranded design) for £60 from a key cutting place. Wans't going to pay the ridiculous three figure price! Has worked perfectly!

Broadway Shopping Centre in Edgeware, small key cutting place, for those who want to know..

One of the Flux babes? if so then link to her profile essential ;)

On a serious note, do you get a decent discount on insurance?

We get a very good discount on our insurance, dont pay any admin fees or any APR if we pay monthly, neither do we pay any extra for modifications, and that key care is £3.50 in total for a year.

Should really keep tabs on posts I make :rasp:

I went to a garage that was run by former Renault Mechanics, nothing to do with Renault in any way apart from they know their stuff..

I am a member of CPP card protection plan - I am ensured for £200 if I lose my car keys..one of their benefits. If you are a member or these or similar check what is covered..it may save you a bit!

Well i phoned up a couple more Renault Dealers and I've got it down to £170. Saved myself 27 over my first quote i guess. Still gonna be emotional handing the money over mind
