Nearly time for a cambelt

  clio 172 cup
Can some one tell me how hard it is? The reason i ask is that my brother is an apprentice of three years at a local garage and does most work on all our family cars and has sorted out my van many atime, he services my clio all the time and does a very good job, as i stand and watch to keep him company!! Would he be able to do my cambelt? he did the aux belt in no time on my cup, but will he be able to do the cambelt??? If so what does he need that he might not have and so on

Thanks in advance

Rob

Well, im not an apprentice but im study motorvehicle and im in my 3rd year too. from what i have learnt i would be able to do it with some assistance of a haynes manual. He is an apprentice so he should know more than me so i would let him go 4 it!

  Lots of Alfas
Fred has a pic of some of the tools needed, some of them can be made yourself/are similar to other cambelt change tools. Its quite a tough job, get the Renault workshop manual.

Aux belts on cups are dead easy to do.

You just need the tools and IMO unless you know what to do don't bother to many havebeen messed up before now.

You 100% need the cam locking bar and the crank locking pin. Far too easy to loose the timing otherwise, other than that its just a b*****d of the job due to lack of access really.
