Need advice on i pods & docking stations

Mum & dad are looking to get my bro an i pod for his 21st, I haven't really got a clue about them as I don't have one.

Which ones best to go for :S He doesn't want a nano one, I think he wants the video one - not sure how much space he wants though !

What are they like, are they easy to get on with ?
Are they easy to break ? as he's a bit mad, so could well break it !

Can any one recommend a docking station ? (i'm probs going to buy him this ) How much are they roughly ?
I guess you just plug the i pod in & then it plays through the speakers ?

I know I sound daft, but I don't know that much about these things, neither do my 'rents who live in the 80's lol.

the video ones are 30 or 60gb, obviously the 60 is more expensive..

dension i-links are good for the cars, cost about £100

i have a photo ipod and its not gone wrong at all, great thing

as justin said. could try an itrip for the car, like a little radio transmitter that fits on, costs about £40 iirc. quite good, although doesnt work in my car because my radio reception is rubbish. i have had 2 ipods and the battery has died on both, apple know its a problem but i dont know if the new ones suffer from it. few mates have a ipod video/photo they are nice and look the biz. they are easy to use, but not sure about the breaking thing could always get a case for it?! hope that helps. d

itrips are alright, but its almost just like a poor radio station, if you can afford a proper link, the quality will be better..

or you could try a 3.5mm headphone to AUX cable.. cost about a fiver, but alot of headunits dont have the AUX function

How much is the Bose one ?? I've seen one (one of my mates has it)
Does the bose one work with an i pod video ? (she had a nano sitting in it)
