Need advice on web design uni course!

  Fiat Panda 100hp
Hey,

I am currently doing computer networks at uni, but I dont want to go down that path, I now want to change my course, but time is running out as I will be starting in sept.

Over the last month or so I have been really getting into web design, and I love it. I like the design aspect of it too using PS etc. So I am stuck on which course to choose...

Should it be web systems, where I learn about web design and the business side of it...

Or Graphic design, where I would learn about PS and much more, which I would love, but I want to learn about web design too in detail. I just think that this course will limit me in the wen design department.

Thoughts please..

Thanks.

id do the top one.

talking from experience, i did a graphic design course, and didnt learn anything about e-commerce, business sides of things or any useful things like that, was just full of arty farty ponses trying to be abstract.

much more money in e-commerce and the rest of the bulletts which are included in that first link.

althought both of those courses u have listed look pretty similar

lol.. thought so.. what is it with you and using the same link :rasp:

id do the web specific course, i think it would be much more beneficial to your career, however webdesign is a very hard business to get into, with good income etc.. due to the shear amount of people doing it.

They both sem to be totally different routes. The first one is so that you can learn how to be a web developer - ie a coder. The other is obviously design led. So i guess it depends on what you want to be - a designer, or a coder.

There is good money in both when you graduate - i guess it just depends on which you think you'd enjoy more.

Me - even though I'm a coder (amongst other things), i'd pick the graphic design route as there is a much wider scope for work in the future, and i think i'd enjoy it more.

both seem to have a reputation of being hard to get into once you leave uni. you have to be very good at it.

I'd choose the top one too, you should be able to adapt to many types of jobs with it.

I was like you, I was going to be doing networking, kept looking on ucas for new courses. Then one came up finally Ethical Hacking at northumbria (I previously went to an open day in scotland for this course, but i decided it was too far away), so I cancelled all my offers and applied through ucas extra, now I have a conditional offer!

:approve:
