need help on a part name!

Car  Polo Gti . . 1.8 20v T
i was in renault today and the guy told me of a part thats gone on my 182, its the part that controls the revs and lets the engine know how much to rev and when to do it (giving that 5k kick)

can anyone tell me the name of the part? im sure it began with a "D"

cheers!

dephaser (begins with a d)

but it does neither of those things....

the part that controlls the revs is the throttle body, and the thing that gives it the 5k kick is peak volumetric effeiency

thats the f**ker! what is it the dephaser does?
it advances/retards the cam timing on the inlet cam.. its dephased up untill 1600 ish rpm i think it was (to meet emmisions) its then phased up untill high 6k rpm where its dephased again to drop power off to stop vital engine internals parting company with your car.

i see! sort of how he described it i suppose, he said its all to do with how much the engine revs so all good! cheers for that
