Needing help finding a 172 engine

xpo

  Clio 172
Hello I purchased a Clio 172 last year and now it needs the camshaft dephaser pulley, head gasket pretty much everything.

I recently found out that it has had another engine replaced in before I purchased the car and I was unaware of this! Now, I have reason to believe it's a cup engine as it does not have AC (I wondered why my AC never worked, just thought it needed regassing but it has no AC Pump)

I want to keep the car as it is immaculate! inside and out (minus the engine)

So my question would be... where would I be able to purchase either a 172 engine (not cup) so it will have AC or a reconditioned engine?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I know I could just go ahead and have the engine repaired however, I think it would be more suited to get the entire engine replaced with all ancillary items.

I'm also losing alot of water from the coolant tank, it can be fine for a couple week and the night before it can be full then after a short drive the next morning its half full! what could this be? no sign of leakage.

Thanks again!

God knows why people remove the ac...
I would much rather have AC and 2 bhp less.

Diagro... I couldn't agree more with you, once I found out it had been removed I was furious as I would be much more happier comfortable with the climate control working as it should opposed to having let's say 2 more BHP which will make what? Basically no difference.

My 172 is not a cup and it had no reason to be removed. Also the horn is on the left stalk button and not the steering wheel I'm guessing it's tried converting to a cup by a previous owner grr.

Dan, thanks for your reply. I only mentioned the gasket as there is white gunk under the oil cap now I know it's condensation but it's never a good sign. Luckily I don't see no white gunk on the dipstick.

Now why would my 172 lose water from the coolant like that so fast over night as I mentioned in my original post?

What would be my best solution here guys? I would really love to keep the car.

Thank you for any help.

If the head gasket has gone you will notice an oily smell in the coolant and the header tank will have a crazy amount of back pressure when u pop the top. Does the car overheat?

If none of the above your head gasket is fine

Hi con1981.

No oily smell in the coolant and no back pressure when popping the top. As for the car overheating, not at all. So I guess the gasket is fine. However that doesn't explain the water loss in the coolant tank and I can't find any leaks I wonder if it's leaking into the radiator?

As for the engine question can anyone shed some light on this?

Thank you.

Where in the world are you? Your first plan of action should be to let a specialist look at it. A specialist from this forum no less!
For the sake of an hours labour, get someone to properly diagnose it and give you your options.
None of us on here will be able to give you definitive answers over the Internet, it's all guess work.

If you can't see a leak from the hoses. Check your rad as these can rot overtime. Look for coolant residue.

Daniel.

Sigh. I'm in England. It has been diagnosed it's the camshaft de phaser pulley. That's what I said in the original post it was diagnosed by a Renault specialist. I didn't just guess it. My original question is where would be the best bet to get a replacement engine. Lord....

England is quite a big place, could we maybe narrow it down to a city? or even a county would do? Lol

Where did you get it diagnosed?

No need to get Chopsy.

I have 172/182 spares coming out of my ears but you obviously know best so you carry on.

I'm from Halifax. He asked where in the world am I? So I had to start somewhere.

Daniel you were the one flaming, stating " where in the world are you?" Did that need to be asked?

Never said I knew best or claimed it either.

Btw it was diagnosed at dryclough lane garage Halifax I have a full diagnostics report and problem founds. I can upload the sheet if anyone wants to see.

Cheers.

Tbh if they've said the gasket has gone I'm certainly not trusting their diagnosis any further. Common places for leaks are the radiator, water pump, thermostat housing.

"Where in the world are you"

So

"What is your location, I will point you towards your local specialist"

I have a Jc5 089 gearbox and F4R 732 engine (engine is missing injectors, Coil pack, throttle body, inlet and exhaust)!
Engine ran just fine in the car it came out of and comes with a JC5 089 gearbox (purchased from Decco on here a couple of weeks ago) gearbox is supposed to be recon but never ran it ... 4 litres of gearbox oil 75w/90 I think .. You can take both for £130 if you can collect from Staveley, Chesterfield ... Not all that far from Hallifax really!

Gearbox alone cost me £140 when I got it and you should have all the things on your current engine to make it complete!

With all due respect, I think you have completely taken Daniel's comment the wrong way mate. He's a good bloke and happy to help folks where he can; hence his asking as to where you are located. Knowing roughly where you are could help in pointing you towards someone to help, allow local people to get some parts to you, etc. Anyways, good luck with the engine and I hope you are able to get the car up and running asap and without too much of a hit to the wallet.
