New 182 Owner. Is the Engine Meant to Sound Like This?

  BMW 1 Series
Hello Gentlemen,

I'm a new 182 owner from Wakefield/Leeds area. Had it for a few weeks and I'm really pleased with it so far. It's a FF but I should probably refer to it as ''semi-skimmed'' at the moment since the front splitter has gone AWOL.

However, I'm a little concerned about the noise the engine is making and whether it's normal or not. My friend had one a few years ago before he got a Focus RS and he said that his sounded similar, but I'd appreciate it if someone could listen to it and see what they think:

Really exciting video, I know. I know that if it sounds like it's making a loud tapping noise it could be the dephaser, but I don't think it's that bad. What do you guys think? Me just being paranoid?

Sounds like a american muscle car V8.

I'm not sure if there's actually anything wrong with it, or if it's just me being a gimp and thrusting my head into the bowels of the engine and expecting there not to be a peep. This video was shot as soon as I started it up, so I guess I should take into account that the engine was cold.

Can't hurt to get it checked out I guess, it needs a good service anyway. I think it sounds worse on the video than it does IRL. Thanks for the info everyone :approve:.
