New 182 to the fleet, couple if queries!?

  XC90, 330d, Trophy’s
Ive bought a black Clio 182 with a couple of the cup goodies on it, covered 70k and a one owner car.

I'm really enjoying it but a few silly items have got my mind ticking.
The car picks up and goes reasonably well, but as it hits 5k the tone changes and is almost like it's just been given a sudden kick up the arse of extra horses and it has a new lease of life and screams for the redline, making it feel somewhat flat before 5k in comparism.
Is this normal?

Also, when cornering to the right moderately quickly, and if you catch a slight bump it really seems to upset the car, with the rear having a sudden twitch like it wants to step out RWD style.
Do they suffer with any worn bushes that I should be looking out for or pay attention to, or could it be a front end issue which is making it feel like its the rear?

Also, I knew it needed a couple of rear exhaust bushes but just been checking prices on the diamond shaped ones on the rear silencer, theyre almost £30 each and there's 2 of the buggers, any recommended places to get them cheaply.

Cheers :top:

Yeah they sort of come on cam at 5k, so that's normal. If your having strange handling inspect all shocks, but i'd put money on the rear shocks being knackered. Very very common, very easy to replace yourself, so have a butchers. Rear exhaust hangers, stop being tight ;), pattern parts are usually worse than o.e. Get a new set and pack them out, do a search on this.

not so worried about spending the money, just £30 a mount seemed expensive compared to a similar part on other cars, hence asking incase i was looking in the wrong place, doh!! lol

glad you said that about the rear shocks, coming home last night from the cinema with the misses i did say that i thought the rear seems to continue to follow the bumps as if its riding the road with no damping control.
good starting point, and thank you :)

Usually they are around £20 (well when i had mine a few years ago)

Rear shocks are usually around £50 each. Welcome to Renault, cheap to buy, premium replacement parts

;)

Ah yes, have a soft spot for the 19's, dont see many about these days!

Does your car make a banging sound at all on the back end at all? mine did when i went over speed bumps or hit and sort of bump on the road, was a rear shock which was knackered, was leaking out oil, have a look under the car and check to see if any of the shocks are leaking, and there £50 each, always good practice to replace both aswell so the car sits right again

doesnt appear to be anyting leaking, but yes at times over rough ground it does have a faint sound of 'bottoming out'.

could well be a good start point, ill get it up on a mates ramp tomorrow and have a good look around and make sure there is no excessive movement in any of the bushes and to check alignment/tracking.
rear shocks i can handle if need be.

is that £50 ea direct with Renault?

Thanks :)

Contact pete@autonation on here, £50 delivered, cheaper than going to renault, if there is any sign of leaking on the shocks then the seals have gone so there knackered

I've got a spare pair of rear shocks if your interested, they arent all that old if I remember rightly. I bought them off here as a spare set, but I then bought some coilovers so they've never got used and are just laying around

Thanks James, I'll bare that in mind.

Next question, how would I find out if the car has cup suspension?
I know it's got cup alloys and front splitter, a friend seems to think it's a normal 182 but has an optional cup pack.
Would this include suspension, or is the suspension the same between a 182 and a cup - in this instance the rear shocks in particular.

Thanks again :)

If its the 182 with cup packs it should have:

Spoiler / splitter cup pack- The cup spoiler and splitter

Suspension cup pack- Stiffer suspension and anthracite wheels

Whip off front wheel, the bolts that attach the hub to the strut should measure 60mm. If its 54mm it is not cupped (lots of non cups have anthracite wheels retro fitted)

Since i got my 182 back in April its always had a kind of knocking sound when i go over bumps or on a cobbled road. Reckon thats shocks?

I had the same trouble. i just wedged a big 1/2" nycloc and two falt washers under the centre slot of the mount and covered it in wurth sealer. let it dry and its as good as new!

Dean, it isnt silly at all, if it makes a similar sound. Im pretty sure its coming from the front though. How can you tell the shocks are shot if they arent leaking though?
