New Camera! Advice Needed... (56k NO!)

ive got rid of my old camera, and decided to move into the world of DSLR's.... anyway, ive got a Nikon D40, managed to pick it up stupidly cheap sealed and boxed etc etc.....so gave the car a quick wash over and went on a drive to try it out....

....now as im new to SLR's.... ive been using 'Auto', but the pictures seem to be coming out as if they are letting too much light into the lens? Do i need to know anything to start with regards to this, as it seems they are 'over exposed' so to speak?

cheers :approve:

the exposure of the pics looks ok but if you are taking shots with the headlights on the camera will think it's sunny hence the head on shot is underexposed, so use the camera in manual mode or use spot metering on the centre of the grille rather than the whole car in these cases.

Nice pics! My advice would be to read all the owner manual. The "Creative mode" as some of they called. All that stuff "P", "Av", "Tv", "M" & "A-Dep". I don't know if Nikon use the same inicials (I guees in all are the same) and try new pics with the things you read and change some "settings" like the exposure, shutter speed, aperture, etc.

As we say in here "preuba y error" I don't know how to transalte it but it is like take a lot of pics and then check wich ones are good, save those pics and again go and take a lot of pics xD. Practice a lot xD.

Cheers!

I'm not studying photography or anything but i've got my dads old cannon 350 kiss...been using it for about a year and half.its very much like the nikon and i can tell you there's nothing wrong with those shots...if im right it should come with editing software...use that to improve your pics.... unless its too dark then i suggest getting a tripod if your hands unsteady so you can keep the camera still for longer exposures...but yeah those are pretty much what i'd expect
