New car protection- Cayman S

My uncle is taking delivery of his new Porsche Cayman S in the next few weeks and has been offered the obligatory Supaguard treatment for the cost of £299 from Porsche Centre Leicester.

As he's not all that clued up about detailing he asked me if it would be worthwhile. I advised him against it as I'm aware the product is worth little more than £20 and application is not that lengthy a process.

Just looking for any technical info to explain to him why its not worth the money and what alternative new car detailing services are available and at what cost.

Apologies forgot to mention to you earlier do you want us to treat your new car with a full Supagard treatment prior to collection??
In a nutshell we will treat all the painted surfaces with 20 microns of polymer which completely protects the paintwork for 3 years – ‘guaranteed’ also we treat the interior carpets, floor mats and boot areas and the alloy wheels so you have pretty much nothing to do maintenance wise bar a quick detail on a Sunday morning (weather permitting of course).

It does take us a fair bit of time to apply / treat but well worthwhile and certainly does enhance the resale value for you, there is also an after care package for you for those Sunday mornings.

Complete package is £299 including vat with the 3 year guarantee.

If it was me I'd be looking to take it to a reputable detailer nearby and have some proper protection put on it.

Just tell them you don't want it. You don't need to justify your decision.

£299 will get you a much better protection detail from a local specialist.

I think the fact that even they put quotation marks around "guaranteed" shows its worth (i.e. FA).

So no. Stay clear.

Take the £300 to Jim White, Russ@MCC or another reputable detailer to get it coated in GTechniq or CQuartz products.

Im sure JD or Gally will be along to advise a better way or maybe a better product.
All I know is I use it on mine and love it, so easy to use and great value.

I have a load of the stuff from my brothers valeting days, its alright but nothing worth going out and spending good money on.
