New Clio Sport...

just been down to the renault dealer to see the new clio... and got chatting about the new renault sport coming out next year. At first i thought he was talking crap, but then another renault guy came over and confirmed the same thing...

I know there has been a lot of talk on here about what engine the new clio sports will be getting. They said, there will be a 150bhp model, and later in the year, a 225bhp TWIN turbo!.... by now i was quite sceptical...:S

I asked why they would put a twin turbo in, and asked why they wouldnt simply stick the megane 225 engine in, apparently the megane engine is too large?

Any comments on all the above? Is it all rubbish? I thought they were putting a tweaked version of the current engine in...

  Golf GTI 1.8T
I read something in the times motoring section a couple of years ago. A lot of companies are now developing turbo and supercharged engine. I think VW a bringing out there first one in 2007 being a golf, starting with the 1.4 twin thingy, it will have a turbo and a supercharger which gives more power and better economy than the current 1.4. I think pug, and a couple of others are hoping to have all there car ranges offering turbo engines on the smaller models by 2010. Maybe renault are considering something similar to this.

  Burbler
I wouldnt rule the twin turbo idea out completely just yet, think of how weird it would have seemed wen they were talking about putting the v6 in the back of a mk2 ph1!!?? renault seem to think just that little bit further out of the box than other manufacturers sometimes don't you all agree?

i think it seems pointless to me putting it in a front wheel drive car. Actually the turbo idea wouldnt surprise me though, because even people with 182s would change to a turbo just for the tuning potential so it would be a good move for renault like that in that sense..

I've heard about a GT 140~150hp model being made probly a top of the range none RS car).
The only turbo engines will be diesel the new RS is a 6 speed with 192~197hp (most likly 197 which will be equal to 192UK HP).
The Megan engine will fit (after all its basically a 172 engine) but its not going to. They problem would be trying to get the gearbox in which is a pain as its so large the 197 or whatver RS clio uses a smaller new generation gearbox but its not strong enough to take the abuse that the turbo could give it (its limited to 240NM).
The twin turbo that VW use is a superchraged/turbo charged engine for emmisions etc. You don't need a proper twin turbo ie sequenchial turbo.

The new petrol RenaultSport Clio will not have a turbo. This has been confirmed time and time ago. Dealers don't have the foggiest what they are talking about. My car gets referred to as "the red one", that's how much they know.

That 150bhp one sounds like a good warm hatch, and a direct competitor to the Fiesta.

haha, i believe u lee, just thought i'd post up what they said, if they had said single turbo i might have been more inclined to believe it, but not twin turbo..

  BMW M135i
As previously said, according to novemeber top gear there will be 140hp Nissan-Renault engined one as well.

  182BG
i heard they are gonne be brigning out a 3.0l turbo 4wd version, haha just kidding.
Renault and others seem to be saying a lot of things, but im quite excited to see what they will actually bring out

  Megane Mk4
The New RS wouldnt benefit from 150Bhp ... Its heavier than the existing 182 and it wouldn't be as fast as the ST fiesta, Still ... There have been loads of people saying on here that it wont even see a turbo and will still stick to the 2.0 engine but .. at the end of the day it'll be renaults decision, should be fun to watch what they decide! lol

And as I've learnt from first hand experience Hector... dont always believe what sales staff tell you... they're only there to make your mouth water and to take your hard earned readies off you ;)

i thought they were bringing an RS diesel that was 140bhp? then the range topper 197bhp RS? is it true if you secify larger alloys on the new clio you get enlarged front wings too?

No Renaultsport diesel agreed.

The are 3 sizes of front wing on New Clio. Standard with 15" wheels, slightly wider with the 16" wheels and the extended wings with air extractors for the Renaultsport

  FF 182, K5 GSX-R1000
Jeremy, any idea of expected weight for the RS? Or how the power gains are achieved over the 182?

  Mini Cooper S sport
Everyone's soooo dying for there to be a really fast new Clio (including me!).

I hope they change their minds about the turbo one day, it would be nice to have a Clio that can compete with the bigger, faster cars.

At the moment it sounds like the new one won't be any faster than the current 182.

I guess the performance all depends on what other RS models they intend on making.

I wouldn't have thought they would power the RS Clio with a twin turbo and over 200bhp and keep the RS Megane at 225bhp. Unless they intend on upping the power on both cars significantly it would defeat the point of the other RS models. (If that makes sense lol)

I would have thought that power wouldn't be hugely up on the 182, probably a 192!!

Just seems logical to me!

Still think it would be cool ir Renault did something redical with the new RS Clio as they set the standard in 2000 with the Mk1 172 which so many manufacturers followed (206 Gti 180, Mini Cooper S, Fiesta ST etc).
But I personally don't reckon its not gonna be a huge difference over the 182.

An RS Megane 3.5ltr V6 would be something cool though haha

the "twin turbo" there refering too i asusme is the same engine thats in the megane 2.0T 225 with Twin SCROLL turbo.

So what is a twin scroll turbo??

I'm still thinking that the Clio is unlikely to have a turbo but thats just me! lol

The new Clio RS won't have a turbo. Everyone on here who knows has said so and even the Renault brand manger Jerrery who's posted on the thread has agreed.

The twin scroll turbo is some fancy turbo which is supposed to reduce lag and increase low rpm boost I think.
