New Comer! Hey and Advice!

  Clio 172
Hey all!

Next week I'll hand over my 55 reg Fiesta ST and collect my 02 reg Clio 172! This is partly because I'm re-evaluating my financial situation but also because the ST is as tunable as a lawn mower!

I've only ever owned Fords so this is going to be new for me, but thats alot of what I'm looking forward to! I've spent the last few days reading through alot of the posts, but could do with a something clearing up as I know nothing about Renault Mk's, Phases etc - Is my 02 plate a Mk2 Ph2?

Next, and the main point of the thread - tuning!!

From what I've read on the forum I'm going to do the following in the order listed below:

Induction Kit
Exhaust (Going for the K-tec Stealth System)
Manifold Matching
Cams and Remap (Which Cams are recommended for road driving, not intersted in those only designed to give max BHP, want driveability!!)
Eibach Lowering springs

Now I know people say sort handling and brakes first but this is the way I want to do it based on my personal experiences of previous cars! BHP isn't important but If I was to ever get it RR then I'm ultimately looking for about 200bhp, but not breaking than value won't make me cry!

So, any input, comments etc very welcome!

O, and I'm picking the 172 up next week, Monaco blue, 36000 miles, full service history, brand new eagleF1's, discs and pads. Purchased from a Renault garage for £6000 with a years warranty, MOT and tax so pretty pleased! Just a couple of scuffs need sorting but more interested mechanical minter, a little bit of spraying will cost me next to nothing

Bit long winded but thats the introduction over and done with! Hope you're as friendly as the STOC lot!!

Welcome to CS.

You have a ClioII phase 2. The modifications sound right, it's about getting more air through the engine so you might want to also consider a de cat. Don't forget brakes as well, upgrade to better pads and stainless steel lines. But the standard car is pretty good to begin with. Probably wise to replace the gearbox oil to something a little better - same for engine oil too.

No doubt others will be along shortly to offer their advice.

Welcome to CS

I don't think you'll be dissapointed with the 172....the handing/steering is spot on and makes it one fun car to drive.

Drop Fred at Yozzasport or Ben R at Angelworks a pm regarding getting to 200bhp....those guys are pretty clued up on their Renault tuning.

Good luck with the project:D

What do you mean by i/k? Sorry if I'm being slow, ill off work! lol

In terms of spending 5k, it is alot and like I said hitting 200bhp is a priority but would be nice! You never know, might win the lottery next week and spend 10k hitting 205bh!p :)

Well compared to the ST I think the handling is better and the brakes are definitly better, seating position is more sporty if not a little cramped compared to the ST. Overall, should be a lot more fun!

O, and I've got a Redtop Corsa to beat which my ST is very incapable of doing!
