(also how much could I maybe get for this computer if I sold it)

Basically I want a competely new computer for around the £500 mark. I dont need monitor etc.. Ill also build it myself.. but could I get a decent computer for around this price.

Used for uni, gaming, website design etc....

Cheers

right - for starters, you will be able to get the right stuff for about 500 quid: here we go..

Gigabyte K8N Pro SLi nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-038-GI) £82.19Including VAT at 17.5%
BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-033-BG) £143.34 Including VAT at 17.5%
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K) (MY-057-OC) £152.69 Including VAT at 17.5%
Asus TA-250 Series Midi Tower (Black) - No PSU (CA-009-AS) £38.72 Including VAT at 17.5%

total of about £480 quid!
Right, thats the bare bones - i presume you have a mouse, keyboard and monitor - also a disc drive and Hard Disk - although you can pick all these things up for next to nothing!!

Hope that helps!

just bare in mind that there are probably some olther bits and bobs that you can use in your current set up - i rekon you could get about £250 selling the thing as a whole........

lol thats true - thought i had forgotten something!!!

Me too, I tried using my old ATX unit in TheBeast2. The system brought the PSU to it's knees (even though it was a quality 550w). Much to Rasclarts amusement

Replaced with a ATX2 700w OCZ

Kool, yea I have keyboard , mouse, monitor etc.. Just gotta add on a harddrive and a PSU too that really and im away :)

So about £250 for my old stuff maybe?

The Athlon 64 3700+ is showing it's age a bit these days.

For a few extra quid why note go down the Conroe route?

If you already have a decent hard drive and dvd drive take those out and double up on the memory.

i would try selling it bit by bit over ebay - you often get more that way - £250 may be ambitious but its not totally inconceivable

My harddrive is 2x80gb IDES, so they will be going and ill get the SATA, i have a new DVD writer so could keep my original one maybe :)

Easily. Too many people get hung up on wattage.

There's Shuttles out there with 250w psu's running 7950GT and X1800's all day long.

I'm using a 400w PSU running a Opty 144 @ 2.7, 2 optical drives, a 150gb Raptor and 2 * 7800GT's. My PC's been running 24/7 since last November without any problems.

Mines from OCUK but I can't answer for fastwunz (although I suspexct they're from OCUK too)

EDIT - lol timing!

word of warning actually - you will never get OCUK (overclockers) on the phone EVER. however, you cans end them a webnote which they seem to prefer and reply to pretty quickly. Although, i have ahd a few issuews with OCUK, usually not advertising thiings correctly or taking payment for an item they no longer stock - i would be careful lol!

actually i find dabs is cheaper than OCUK. OCUK aftersales services is not the best, as has been said getting them on the phone is literally the most frustrating thing ever. make sure u order the right stuff and you'll have no problems! i use dabs for a lot of stuff, that and scan as comparing prices OC usually comes up higher but you get a better selection of gaming equipment on there and of course the site is easier to follow.
