New ecu repair £879 :O need asap advice

  clio
Hi last week my clio started acting up, its a 1.216v, two warning lights came up on the instrument pannel, (1) electronic / preheating fault (2) Toxic Fumes Light.

I took the car to renault leicester to get the car on the diagonstic equipment, and today i received a call saying the ecu was damaged and had somehow had waterdamage.

Then came the price £879 for a new ecu + wiring and repair! surely this is daylight robbery!

I'm new to leicester, as i moved here as a student attending the university, is there any advice people can give me, is that really the approx price of such a repair? Any other good garages i could give a try across the midlands?

Thanks :dead:

new ecu seems to always be the (mis)diagnosis on that car, load of balls if you ask me

i bet it has a wee bit of wiring damage on the ecu connectors due to the cover rubbing, common fault

The ecu covers on the 1.2s are known to chafe at the wiring, do you know if the tamper cover is still over it or has it been removed?

If you got it home now I would have a good look round the ECU and wiring as best I could.

I doubt its a new ECU tbh more likely a loose/bad wire, but you never know.

edit: beaten by frederick. :(

So do you think i should get it back from renault leicester and take it back to my halls`for further inspection. Iv got it towed to renault, as it is has gone into "limp mode"

If you fixed it in the car park and it was something simple I think you have every right to burn the place to the ground.

Seriously though if your not mechianically minded get a friend to have a look before you commit to a new ecu. Or take it to a specialist for a second opinion.

I just gave four ashes renault specialist by wolverhampton a call, after they gave renault a good tongue lashing, they told me to take it to them to check over the ecu in case it is a electronic wiring fault or maybe something else faulty?, im not that mechanically minded regretibly, so hopefully they can figure the fault, if it is the ecu they have both new n spare ecu's as well. Im gonna get it towed ther tomorrow.

Apparently there in a different location from the other clios in the range?

Hey! Sorry to bump an old thread but im having this exact problem! My wires has chaffed so i removed the cover. Its been on the diagnostics at renault and i got told its a misfire command from ECU to the third cylinder. The second cylinder is also misfiring. But renault want want £180 for "further tests" and then the rest! I have anither ECU just sitting around from a breakers, do i just put that on and fst it programmed? I really cant afford the 500+ it WILL be! Is the offer of coming to look at it still valid ;) if fuel is paid.

Many thanks, Leon
