Those pics where taken last year, the car is just a test mule for the engine and chassis, rumors where that the car was running a modified Jag x Type 4wd system.

You can see from the front bumper that there are some serious bits of engineering behid thats the main reason for the large opening.

It will be intresting to see what will happen, rumours are that the 4wd system will be ditched in favor of a trick Diff similar to the one that was fitted to the old RS.

Its not supposed to show exactly what the car will be like, but it will generally use the driveline (engine, gearbox, brakes etc), the idea is to disguise the finished production vehicle!!!!

This is what the new one may look like. I drove past Dunton in essex a couple of weeks back and there was a ST with all the covers on the front and rear, which had a much wider stance, which makes me think that the 4wd will be fitted.

Thing is its all speculation at present, Ford havent even done the costing for the car yet, and the last thing they want to do is make £1000 loss on each car like they did with the original Focus RS.

I cant imagine we will see this car until at least 2009, and Ford will be facelifting the Focus before then.

Yes. They can test all the new frame, engine and drivetrain etc with all the old panels over the top.

Aston Martin do it all the time, the new V8 when in the testing stages was a beefed up DB7.

Jag at the moment have a mule S Type running some of the new engines and chassis developments for the all new S Type replacement. If you do a lot of motorway driving near Dover, you will see them all the time coming over from France to test out the cars suspension on the UK roads, recently a fleet of what look like Audi A6 Off Roaders were driven over to the UK for testing, it was later found out that they were using what would soon to be the New Q7 Chassis, drive traind and engine.

You obviously dont know what your talking about the RS will be out in about 9 months.

I have been in the test car at work (in France).......wont be an EVO beater but very good car.

2wd FWD 305hp (production target was 285) lsd / larger arches.

4wd system car is a right cut and shut and the ford engineers said the cost for 4wd were too high and they are on a very tight budget. Car will retail about 23/24k.

Was quick though well 150+ through NANCY in france...

They have to keep the same body of the ST as the budget doesnt stretch to the wide version like what they did with the old RS.

Will be a good car for the money and easily tunable....
