New, Fully Electric Renault 5

I knew I could find a proper Renault 5 thread here 😆 I've got an R5 press car coming in for four whole hours on 5th March, and I'm hoping to film a quick 'living with' review in that time, vlog style, for the cinch channel. I'll be doing predictable stuff like testing the real range, ride and UK usability, but are there any big questions anyone wants answered? I'm sure I'll have forgotten something when I plan it...

I'd be interested in finding out how going into a tight space is, Autotrader had this in a review where i think going from drive to park joults the car.

If you fancy doing a tip run I'd also appreciate that 😅 believe a tow ball is an option.

We also need to find out about this baguette holder could be a deciding factor!

Also servicing when it is required and what is involved.

All brilliant things - thanks! I'd love to get one with a tow bar, and then tow a Twizy on a lightweight trailer (think that just squeezes under the limit)

I'm test driving on Friday all going well. Sadly not 4hrs and likely someone talking nonsense beside me but shall report back any other thoughts.

When I went in at the weekend they had mentioned I was the third person to come in that day asking about the 5. Putting my Scottish tight cap on I do wonder what second hand values will look like.

I think residuals on these will be pretty strong for an EV.

3 year old mid spec about 15k?

Since it doesn’t have a ‘park’ I’m not sure what they’re on about!

Tow bar is an option yes.

Yes. Ask Renault UK when Renault Aus can get the R5

Wow! Time to start a petition for Renault to offer Turini's on the R5

The blue with gold looks good. Not so convinced by silver on green. What it does show is that most OEM wheels look absolutely pap!

The more I look at them the more I prefer the fresh silver Turini’s on the Green one, a nice subtle drop on them is proper *chefs kiss*.

Like you OEM’s have gone off the rails in a bad way with wheel design especially with stupid diamond cut efforts, can’t say I like any of the wheels they have to offer on the 5 as standard. There are some exceptions but they are usually for the more higher performance cars.

I had a test drive earlier, didn't leave thinking oh wow - it was okay. The re gen on the braking I think would take a while to get used to but you can just knock it into drive which removes this. Turning circle is impressive. Also was a little quicker than I expected. Interior is really nice and feels good quality.

Did like looking into the rear view mirror and seeing the rear arch. The Google maps is amazing quality.

I think if I had gone out myself I would have enjoyed it a lot more, the sales patter really is tedious.

Saw a green one at the shop earlier, actually looked really good which is crazy to say about a new car nowadays.

Had a quick 15min test drive on Sunday.
Was pretty impressed to be fair.
Size wise, I would say it’s similar room inside to our old mk5 golf GTi. I’m 6ft & could just about sit behind my driving position.
Seemed to handle pretty well from my limited time behind the wheel.

Will definitely be considering one for a daily for the wife when it’s time to swap her car.

Wasn’t a big fan of the blue although I much prefer the mid spec interior.

I like the styling of the new 5.

However i wish it had a proper turbo engine in it.

I’m not anti ev, heck i have an ev myself and it is great.

But i just need this car with a turbo

IMO it's not really about the driving experience with EV's, it's an EV they don't really have one.

More important to figure out if it'll do everything you want, and will you look like a c**t driving one about?

They also said they would have a pop green demo in a few weeks so will have to go check it out when it arrives.

We can at least hope some lunatic will rip out the EV gubbins and K24 turbo swap it at some point.

I reckon people will expect the alpine version to be a more dynamic drive if the regular 5 isn’t living up to certain people’s expectations.

Yes quite possibly, although I expect in reality it'll be faster in a straight line, and much like any other EV everywhere else.
