New gearbox?

Car  Golf GTI PP Mk7
How much am I looking at for a new gearbox as I think mine has completely shat itself now. 5th wont engage properly and jumps out when I lift off, and 1st is being a real pain, its hard to get it to go in properly.

Serious money? :(

It's surely the labour charges you want to be worried about unless your doing it yourself?

Don't have any experience with buying 172 boxes, sorry

The main problem might be getting hold of one, as the 172 cup gearboxes are different to the other 172/182s due to speedo driven off gearbox not rear abs. (AFAIK)

Few come up on ebay though, and try renault breakers

wudnt know where to start with regards to doing it myself, is it easy? my bro works in a garage and i cold probably get it done on the cheap tho.

serious labour charages?

Once you get the subframe off its really plain sailing, you could do it in about 7 hours.
The hardest part is keeping the release bearing in whilst trying to attach the box back to the block.

to fit a reconed box on my astra G was £1100 sure a ren box will be more (that is fitted tho) i'd trade the car in.

righto, so realistically im looking at about 2k to get it all sorted.

sh1t.

this is all i need right now.

can gdi/yoz give me rough qoute on here?

Give gdi a buzz mate, it is a big job to do coz its engine out but they done one for me a while back and it weren't anywhere near the 2k mark, all in all i think it was around the 1k mark. they no a good gearbox rebuild company too which there quite friendly with!

7 hours labour depends where you go say £50 an hour at a garage any good place who specialise in clutch will know what to do as you've got to near enough get the box off to do the clutch.

Then a new clutch £80 and some good new fluid £50 then a new box can be got for £440 I think cheaper for second hand

Total cost under £1k.
