New Guy Here - With my Loud Clio

Hey Guys

Just signed up after buying my first Clio - Its a Black 16v with a little surprise in the back - A pair of 18" subs and 6kwrms

I have been into the sound off scene for a while but after my last car containing this gear died I picked this up.

Yes i know the back is a mess that will be tidied up soon - it was installed in the wet so had to hurry!

You might have seen it as some shows, used to be owned by a guy called Gula and more recently a guy called Lozzy, Its now down to me to take good care of it,

I know not very much about cars but quite a bit about car audio so hopefully can add something to the forum

That was when Lozzy had it - He sold it to fund his new project, an Escort RS Turbo Van

Will look good if you can get it all tidied up.

Needs tidying up and im going to Matt Black it, its just so i can compete in the world sound off championships this year so not a long term project though

This is project club 150+ mk 2 aka Project Clio 150+ - my aim for the year is to make it do louder than 150db - I did 150 db in my golf but that died so i needed something to put my gear in which is why i got this

Its got a decent engine, and pulls better than the 1.4 in the original Project 150 so not so much of a mare to drive - got williams brakes all round so stops well to

They are Eminence 8" PA drivers, VERY LOUD of not much power - just right for keeping up with the bass

2 ss auto tekk 10 inch 400 watt each powered by 4 channel 800 watt jensen amp which i bridged to two channel to run the subs at 400 each. i had alpine type s components and 6by9s running of an alpine v power 400 watt amp. along with an alpine head unit. damm i miss it but my ears certainly dnt!

to give you an idea of how loud, Looking at your install, you where probably doing about 135db mine is around 150db and due to how the db scale works (3db more is twice as loud) mine is about 15db louder so 5 times louder!

Its an ongoing project so hoping to get louder

lol yer my mate had 6 of what i had in my corsa in a m3 that was running 150 db used to pop the back window out! im big into my sounds but i wanan keep the speed of my sport there for im just guna sink 1 10" type r into the spre wheel whole i think. i no my old system cant compare to yours but was nice specially on the low bass lines. wish i hadnt have sold it with me old car rly but o well. keep me posted on yours mate deff intressted. needs a tidy though. any other plans for the car asa whole?

if rich can get a nova so loud im sure you can get 150+ with enough hard work.

6 10's in the boot of an m3 must have been a tight squeeze!!

Hey Laura, I thought you would be around here somewhere. Gula did 152 with a pair of xxx18s and the same am[s. lozzy has strengthend the box some and the dds should peak higher so fingers crossed!

1.8 16v so yeah it goes ok, and thats 2 washing machines, 2 very loud washing machines.

personally o prefer the DD9515s over the 18s, i presume they are the 95s, with them having the kevlar cone?

how does the box look inside id spend some time smoothing off the port inside, or even ripping it out and creating one like the terra vans, with 3 15s ,

They are 9918's

With the older DD's the 99s had the kevlar cone and the 95s where paper, now tehre is no 99 series just a 95 with a kevlar cone option if that makes sense.

I think the 95 sounds smoother, the 99 is harder (probably due to the cone)

The box needs smoothing inside and i do plan on flaring the box as well. Apparently the setup like the terra and firestarters connect van (subs HARD up against passenger side, port HARD up against the drivers side) does make it louder on the mic but the gain probably isnt worth the work that would need doing, I got it because i needed somethign to take to the world finals so it should work well for that.

World and Euros are now the same thing thats what happened last year - im going again in october this year

Gord had 9915s i think as I had 1 of them off him ( a loaned one while mine was being fixed)

I was in France with Geoff, Dave, Ken, Daddy-O and the fusion Guys

we met at the uk finals in 06, I blew my sub and gord helped take it apart and pronounce it very dead indeed, then I got geoffs pair of 3512's and my DD love affair began.

Brand new the Subs have a RRP of around £1200 the amps around £1000

I got it all second hand though and was not daft enough to pay anything like that!

youve got the basics of a cracking system thier but poor fitting/rushed has made it piss poor!

Its not the basics, is IS a cracking system

Its not designed to look pretty its designed to be loud, im not interested in winning any show and shine competitions. If your definition of a cracking system is a well trimmed one then thats your tastes, I would rather mine sound amazing then look amazing, if you want art then hand a picture in your car, I want loud great quality tunes in my car and thats definitly what I have!

and yes, 6x9s in the same airspace as the subs is asking for trouble.

In a small car you shouldnt need 6x9's anyway - just put good quality component speakers in the front doors - your ears point forwards not back so dont have speakers behind you

the only real need is maybe if you have passangers and they need a bit of rear fill but otherwise have it faded fully to the front
