My Dad is in need of a new iPad today, He currently has the iPad Mini Wi-Fi 3rd Gen I believe. After looking at Deekay’s notes is it worth getting the iPad Air. He just uses it for pics and general browsing and that’s it really .

Just get the standard iPad if that’s all it’s for. £320 for the 64Gb version. Can’t see what benefit he’d be getting from spending the extra few hundred for an Air really.

Sorry for posting on this thread, I didn’t want to make a new thread. I’m still using my iPad Pro it’s 2nd Gen 2016/2017 and im wondering if it’s stopped Software Updates all together now. it hasn’t done one in a short while, last one was iPad IOS 16.7.10

Im just wondering with it being old now and Apple isn’t doing any more updates and is it worth now part ex this and get a newer one. I presume it’s at risk not getting any updates regarding security and that? Shame really it’s still going and nothing wrong with it

Also in the end my Dad did just get the standard iPad couple years ago, didn’t go for the mini though, he’s on it everyday snd still going strong

2nd gen iPad Pro was dropped from the supported list when iPad os 17 came out, but iPad os 16 is still getting security updates. You should be ok until 19 comes out because Apple’s usual cadence is to keep security patches going until the OS falls two version behind the current one. Given we’ve only just had 18 released you will likely be good for another year.

Ah ok, just had a look when the last update came out, it was August ‘24. From what you’re saying I won’t get normal updates and just be getting security updates obviously no big IOS 17 or 18. So I’m good for another year and by the time 19 is up , time for getting a new iPad?

Wasn’t it this year when the new version of the iPad Pro came out and what is that current generation without me looking?

I presume it’ll be say 2027 or 2028 when the next generation iPad Pro be out again?

Yeah the new screens are the biggest change.

This years iPad pro is bonkers good.
Probably overkill but the M4 is great and the new screens look so good along side my old 2019 one.
That said, the Airs are probably plenty good enough unless you want FaceID

The one I got is the 12.9” and be looking at the 13”size next. Seen the specs on the new Pro and Air but the Pro has Face ID and OLED. For me going OLED would be a must. Still going for an Air would still be insane graphics wise going from 2nd Gen. I might pop in my local Apple Store and have a look at the models, I put my series number in and it’s worth about £90

Just out of curiosity on the IPad Pro new generation when your on YouTube does it play on 4K, mine is still on 1080p
