New laptop, thoughts on this....

Right ive got around £500 to spend on a new laptop. Ideally id like a BR player with HDMI output. its not going to be used for gaming, just mainly song + movie downloads and web browsing.

Found this, but some of you may stick your noses up at the make, but seems alot of machine for the money, or I might be completely wrong and somone can suggest something better.

I have had 2 Acer Laptops now, bought http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_6930G_Laptop_LX.AUU0X.214/version.asp a couple of months ago.

I would recommend acer to anyone they are a lot better then they used to be.

Why don't you have a look at this with Currys...Looks like a special offer at the minute.
Has a bigger memory on it as well, faster processor and I presume has a better Graphics card. Bit of change from £500 as well for you.

I have the £500 Bluray version of that. The design is the same as the one the OP posted but 17inch. They are very good, can even hold 2 hard drives (17 only) and have the best touch pad of any laptop.

Either is good you get a lot for your money with Acer and the build quality although not the best isn't bad.

The only problem I have with it is I can't get it automatically switch from speakers to optical output.

The Acer you linked in the first post is great up until the screen resolution. No point having a Blu-Ray drive to watch it at 1280x800...

Have you ever actually looked inside one ? cheapest s**t going. Break constantly.

I would never buy an acer, ever.

When working down the in the IT support lab with my mate, 99% of the problems occur with acer laptops.
As with anything, you get what you pay for IMO.
