New Laptop

Car  Peugeot 306 HDi
Can anyone recommend a decent, dependable laptop for around £400 that would do me for Uni and is reliable please? Just for downloading music and word-processing and preferably with Vista - are Dell any good? Good battery life is essential. My Packard Bell has given up after only two and a half years...

Thanks in advance,

Will

I got a decent one a few months ago from E buyer.

Mines HP and been spot on last few months and I use it as my business laptop as well so gets some abuse:

I think the Intel ones are prob better though, My old laptop had an AMD processor and used to get really hot, would have a right dab on if i had it on my knee lol.

i have the insprion 6400 with the uprated battery. it is possible to run for 9 hours in powersave mode.

it cost me about £750 6 months ago. i belive it is around £500 now. the uprated battery is not standard, btw, you have to choose it while "building you laptop" on the dell website.

edit, i get the 9hours while running vista home premium. It orginally came with XP.

I've just got a Dell inspiron 1501 for about £380 from the dell website. The battery life is sh*te, only lasts about 1 hour but other than that can't fault it.
