New loom! :D

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
Just took delivery of a OMEX race loom for the clio :D

I can now loose 99% of the renault engine loom and the OEM ECU!

The bay is going to look uber neat as im only running about 12 sensors :D

Also going to relocate the ECU to the dash and run a gromit through the firewall!

The loom is uber cool and its 99% ready to just wire in! (relays etc are already in) and all the conectors are pre labeled! BRAP

  F4R'd ITB'd '92 cup racer
is that loom supplied with an ecu 'kit' at extra cost or do you have to buy it seperately?

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
Im not sure omex will sell the looms willy nilly IIRC. I only got one as i have a kit off them already, but spose you could ask!

The ecus are about £700 iirc.

  ITB'd MK1
iirc loom is only available with the ECU

not quite. The loom Ben has is not quite the same as the loom in the kits as he wants to get rid of the standard ECU, so he has a few more connections to make. Clio specific looms are only in kits at the moment :)

bit of a hijack but is the general consesus to use the omex 600 ecu with the F4R? is the 710 overkill?

also do explain what is involved in removing standard ecu in place of the omex?

  Lionel Richie
600 can't do coil on plug IIRC, that would be the only reason to go for a 710 over a 600, unless anyone can see any other benefits?

do either the 600 or 710 have individual trims per cylinder?

:)

Omex 600 and 710, MBE 992, DTA S60, Emerald etc. will all run a 73X F4R fine.

if you read what danny says...

that is not a clio specific loom

that is our standard full race loom

we dont sell the clio specific loom without the kit

Ben, you are talking about ONLY 12 sensors now; How f**king many am I running on my oem set-up ? Worrying ... (sensors being the weak-Achilles heel of the car)

Pfft how about you get that manifold fitted first eh? ;)

Which is exactly whats going to happen and can I just say damn the prototype is looking bloody good :)

The SQ6M above is going in so I have the option of paddle shift actuation of a sequential box and active rear suspension....... Only 4 moogs and three LVDT's (four if I want redundancy on the RWS rack) and I can do active toe and camber, active height is a bit harder though LOL

icarus, is that a canbus setup? my mate just bought an ohle buhl ecu etc, its amazing lol.

btw, is a loom available for the 197 engine yet? are there any differences?

It's got three Can Bus's on it so you can run seperate engine, box and chassis CAN if required, 1000hz data logging, full gear control (i.e. no manual clutch actuation down shift etc.), three seperate processors with a dedicated processor for engine position. We've ran Mid 90's F1 engines on them in the past............ and this is only our mid-range ECU!

nice, its the ecu used on the touring car vectra's isnt it?

is this fancy overkill or is it that useful?

weighing up options for throttle bodies on my 197 now. could this drive dtw throttle bodies?

also, when replacing an ecu like this, would i lose trip computer, cruise control etc?

as far as i know unless you have the CAN language for the dash console you cant run multi function display direct from an aftermarket ecu.

its all possible, but as ever cost is the issue

Not thinking of running a Hyllus (sp?) power control module too then... get rid of all those nasty mechanical relays and fuses?

cheers andy. looking at getting throttle bodies, but like the standard features of the car. keeping them would be nice, but i would survive without them lol.

It'd be nice wouldn't it! Have you seen what we can do on the current Hyllus PCM? We have current monitoring to 0.1AMP accuracy so if you're running telem not only will the Hylus spot that an item its driving is suddenly pulling more current when doing the same job but it will shout this over the telem and alert the pit which channel and what item it is.

Mbarnes it will drive two DBW motors via conventional means or CAN. Have you seen the Cosworth by Pectel STI ECU for the US market? Thats a PNP unit that emulates all the standard CAN on the vehicle so everything works as per the standard car, only a few things (such as the SIS switch) have their functions changes. SIS becomes map select switch, some of the standard dash lights become knock/det indicators etc. etc. 197 Can isn't complicated but it'd cost you a lot more than you'd want to pay to have it done.

Also we're very much motorsport only on our SQ's. There are some on road cars but they weren't purchased directly from us!

Very nice... definitely a big step up from Hercules... that thing was massive (but that was a quite few years back now!)

Massive and heavy! It was the first proper PCM out there though and at the time making it any smaller was not easily possible. Hyllus is such a neat solution for power management and when you see just how much you can reduce looms by (in terms of weight and cost) and how much reliability you can add from it then it really starts to make sense for anything very high end club or pro level.

The rally boys love it as well as you can't exactly shake one loose like you can a circuit breaker ;-)

hmm, i suppose there isnt much dbw that would be kept when switching to bodies anyway is there so it sounds like it wouldnt be worth it.

my mate just told me how much his Ohle buhl was lol, so think i will just go down the omex route.

Well DBW is exactly that, drive by wire. You can use a BMW M3 V8 or M5 V10 CAN throttle actuator and either run it over CAN or modify it for direct motor drive.

It's not a big job at all to use this to drive conventional bodies.

AT power also list a DBW actuator for their ITB's on the website so there are a few options.

Safety wise you need dual track TPS and personaly I would run one from either end of the bodies to account for a failure in the linkage between any two bodies.
