New member (plus a few questions)

Hi,

Just a quick note to say Hello!

Sort of a new member, but had Clios in the past, 1.2 RN and a 1.4RT, so this is almost a "coming home" experience. Always been a car nut, but with family type stuff to deal with over the past few years, cars have been boring family rubbish…..however with the kids now 18plus its my time again!!

Wife wanted a smaller car so sold the beemer and got a 03 172, and I have not stopped smiling yet.

Ok, the inside has all the strength and quality of a Blue Peter project put together by a blind monkey with no arms…..but the engine is excellent!!

Got a couple of questions (excuse me if they are daft but still learning about the 172)

Apart from the Cup suspension is the engine in a 182 and 172 basically the same with the extra 10bhp obtained thro better air intake and exhaust type mods?
If I get rid of the standard Renno exhaust and fit a replacement (from K Tec Racing?) will the improvement be obvious
Any real gains from induction kits, and which is the best
Don’t want to go mad (not enough cash!!) but do not like my cars standard1

In a nutshell whats the best mod to make to the wifes 172

Thanks for the advice

Crisis - go for the 172 Cup if you can drive - a lot cheaper and more fun than the 182. Then breathe upon it a bit with all the money you saved.

You can get a 172 Cup for about £7500 if you look about.

Modifications to go for:

Seats - Your Choice
Brakes - more agressive pads, braided lines (172 cup has no abs, so you can run very hard compounds ;-) )
Supsension - Koni Adjustable dampers / Eibach Sportline springs.

1. Apart from the Cup suspension is the engine in a 182 and 172 basically the same with the extra 10bhp obtained thro better air intake and exhaust type mods?

inherantly the same.

2. If I get rid of the standard Renno exhaust and fit a replacement (from K Tec Racing?) will the improvement be obvious

no, not massively noticable, it will be noisier with some power gains.

3. Any real gains from induction kits, and which is the best

Erm replace standard element with a green filter - £45/£50

Yozza is right in all he has said.

There are better exhausts to be had IMHO than the K-tec, if your willing to spend.

Eibachs will see the suspension sorted. After that its up to u if u wanna go further. The springs would be my first mod to a 172.
