New owner of a New Clio 182

Finally picked up my new 182 with cup options last week after letting my Ford Focus RS go.

I have only done 500 miles below 4.5K revs and first impressions are fairly good.

I have experienced a clunk on the pedals when reversing of the driveway, I assume this is ok, but what is it? the suspension is good and I am impressed with all the gizmos and electrical extras that I never had on my RS Focus.

I have noticed a tanned square patch on my windscreen probably around 5 inches square. it looks like a sticker but it is not. Does anyone else have this? its towards the bottom of the windscreen in the middle?? Is this normal?

I sold my RS due to re-sale values being fairly high at the moment. I hope I enjoy my clio 182 but first impressions are that the two cars are in completely different leagues, only 32 bhp separate them but the torque from the turbo was impressive.

However, I have yet to go into the 5-7K rev range on the clio which will hopefully bring a smile back on my face.

I suppose this is my first real posting in this forum. Cheers

Welcome to Cliosport. Glad you are enjoying the new car.

The gap you mention in the windscreen is for electronic toll passes etc. as the screen has a fancy coating it needs a gap to allow the readers to pass through it.

Its more useful in the continent Id imagine.

Dave,

Thanks for the welcome.

I went for the silver. I would have loved to gone for blue but having owned an RS for a year, the colour is a bugger to keep clean, but when you do clean them I reckon the blue looks better than the silver.

I guess I just went for the lazy option. I had a look at my documents and it says I can take it into a renualt garage within 2K or 2 months to have a free check up and to reset tracking etc. Is this common on all new renaults?

From the Bristol area.

I have noticed that the passenger wing mirror has a plastic bit around 1/2 " pertruding from the bottom whereas the drivers side just has a gap which you can stick your finger in.

whats that all about?

The clunk through the pedal is the brake system disengaging fully I think.

I get it on my 182, and had it on my 172.

Welcome and enjoy ya 182. Not sure I could do that swap tho, Id love to go the other way

its the temperature sensor mate.

the free check up seems to be random, I asked my dealer about it and they said they dont do it now, someone else on hear said they have one at 6k so i guess it just depends on the dealer.

I have just had my first service 12k and it was £149 although I needed new pads as I have destroyed them through several trackdays, so that set me back another £100! I am also due a couple of tyres which i will set me back another £150 so an expensive month for me!

I had a bit of a play with a FRS last month on our Spa trip and over 70 mph he just pulled like a train from me!

Im sure you will love the clio though, just get it on a track as soon as you can and you will rally see what it is made of!

Dave and others, cheers for the speedy advice and Im sure I will come on here from time to time.

The RS Focus was a great car, but it did have its faults. Torque steer was unbelieveable in gears 1, 2 and 3. turbo boost was limited in gears 1 and 2 to prevent overloading, but from 50 mph to 140 mph (I was in Germany at the time) is where this car is the nuts, it just pulls and pulls and pulls. I have had 0-100 mph in under 15 seconds, the brakes were awesome but the paint finish was a bit naff

It had just too much attention for my liking. I suppose you will always get that when only 2500 were made in the UK. That is why I got shot of it and went for a clio 182.

My other car that I have had for 6 years is a R5 GTT, now that is a fun car. The R5 GTT will leave the clio standing upto 50 but from there on the clio will be the king hiopefully in terms of handling and speed.

Good summary there. Agreed on the torque steer. As for the toque limiter (to prevent boost overloading as you put it), this is a common thing on fords, going from the 1.7 puma (1st gear torque limiter) upwards. You can get disabler switches for them though. Lets face it, a front wheel drive car is never going to be perfect with that sort of power. I hope you enjoy the clio, im waiting for mine

(currently have a zetec s, good car but to slow - im only 20 so insurance permits any more than a 182).
