New project, 172 clio cup

Hi everyone
Thought I’d start a little thread on my new project.
I’ve had a couple of 182’s ages ago but always fancied one of these cups.
Low mileage at 62,000
Hoping to do a track day in this at Oulton Park at some point but before that comes it needs a lot of work!
Came of a nice chap in Wales, bought it blind but through the dust it actually looks alright! Thankfully
It came with no engine or box but managed to source both along with loads of other bits out of a cup and picking it up Monday.
It’s got the wrong interior in aswell but luckily the guy who’s breaking this clio cup has still got his.
Will do my best to keep you all upto speed as of when I get chance as this will be a fill in job when I’ve got no work in at my own garage.

Apparently the Cambelt snapped, engine got removed to get sent away for repair but got quoted to much so it got sold onto the guy I bought it off.
Got loads of bits in the boot but no lump!
Real barn find, think it’s preserved in all the dust

Little update:
I finally sourced a nice lowish mileage cup engine for the cup ,was meant to pick up last weekend but the journey was abandoned due to the snow,
Original cup interior was snapped up from the same guy as mine came with half leather trim,

Got some absolute bargain original cup shocks on there way through renaultdirect.
Whilst the sun was out (briefly) I washed away the barn dirt, quite like the look of the barn find but was dying to know what was under there!


Actually came up really well for just a jet wash!

That’s the plan, hoping to try and take it back to how it came out The factory
It’s already a pretty original car just needs a few bits taking back to standard

Correct cup interior back in today, it’s amazing how lighter the cup seats are compared with the 172 half leather ones.
Looks a lot better!
Needed to carry out a wiring repair as another snipped item I’ve come across by poor previous workmanship , luckily the cup seats had come with a small tail piece where they’d been cut aswell!
The list is getting longer for the bits I still need!

I can't help you with any of the bit's unfortunately but good to see a cup being saved, my cup isn't quite standard anymore but they are great cars, I am sure you will love it once you get it up to standard and back on the road. Any questions shout, will try my best to help, I am originally from Manchester and still visit regularly as all my family are up there still :up:

How long was it sat in the barn for? It's surprising it didn't get broken just sat there, good work reviving it.

Yeah looking forward to getting it running, every time I look at it I notice something else that’s either needs doing or missing! Ha longer project than I anticipated!

It has scrubbed up well then, a Ford or Vauxhall would have rotted out in a couple years!
