New sony stereo won't interface

I installed a Sony CDX stereo into my Clio Campus - the car has a small audio lever under the right wiper lever which would interface with the original unit to control volume/skip track etc. But now the new Sony unit will not interface with this lever. All buttons have no effect on the unit. I must control the stereo from the front facia panel only.

Is there a way I can make this useful stereo lever compatible with the new stereo?

but in all fairness do you really need them, ive got a campus and i just operate the head unit from the main thing. i drive with my hand on the gearstick most of the time so when its in 3rd of 5th its just one lift of a finger to any button, easy and cheaper than buying those leads

My friend had difficulties getting a Pioneer one of those to work properly on his 182 - Not sure if he's solved it yet, anyone else has had issues getting the audio stalk working with aftermarket headunits on clios?

ive tried many leads to work on my 182 but none have made them work
