So, it seems my tax is going to be £260 for the year next year for my 172. That's an increase of £55 for the year.

To check your car go to

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/

Click on 'Vehicle Enquiry' in the menu on the left hand side,
Enter your registration number at the top and make of car, ignore the rest.

Click next and hopefully it'll find your car and your CO2 emissions, 172's are 194g/km. I haven't got a reg for other models of car to check.

Yet another way to make money

Just out of interest if we were buying these cars brand new then it'll cost £425 for the first year!!

Would anyone actually mind £260 if all the money (or even some of it) was actually spent fixing the pothole ridden roads ?

Would people complain if all the roads were perfectly smooth ? probably not..

The fact is were being taxed for a purpose hence "Road Tax" and they are not spending the money on the roads. That is fraud. But hey its the goverment.. thats ok.

Besides... until it gets to £500-600 a year I wont even think of changing..

For older cars it doesn't say the CO2 emissions unfortunately.

£185 at the moment, it'll be higher next year.

as said in another post.. wouldnt care if the money was spent on the roads and/or public transport in order to give me a viable alternative so i didnt have to drive.

As my Megane is Ph1 mine is 209g, so mine will be £300 a year great.

R26 F1's etc have the newer engine and are only 200g, so they are with the Clios at £260

dont no how much longer i'll be running mine.. £180 tax plus the extra fuel cost etc

and they still talkin about 'pay per mile' which seems like it will be an addition to road tax, not replacement.

They were sneaky enough to change the name to 'vehicle tax' I think they started banding this around a while back when imo they realised they could no longer justifiy how little they were spending on Britains roads.

Where did you get £260 from? It looks like its still £210 for the 172 to me? :S - sorry just seen the bbc link... it seems a bit unclear about the 2010/2011 tax (maybe thats just for new cars)

There are two links in my post. Click the first one to find your emissions (e.g. 172 is 194) click the second link, scan down to the section for 194 emissions and go to 2009 (next year)
