New Tinting Law - state of mind :-s

  "Navy" N17 TWO

hey all

Im looking to get the light smoke tint done, "all round" on a black clio

not sure on it now though cus of this new front side window law

apparently you need to let 70% light through the front side windows.

i dont know what % of light the "light smoke" will allow through

Anyone know?

Basically the factory fit windows are tinted already, and because of that any tint you put on will make them illegal.......

The choice.... as they say.... is yours :)

Legislation came into being on the 1st April 1985 and said from then on,

that vehicle window glass had to conform to certain regulations.

One part of which said that a certain amount of light had to be visible

through the glass, known as Visible Light Transmission (VLT)

The VLT for cars made after 1st April 1985 is

Front side glass 70% minimum

Windscreen glass 75% minimum

basically you are aloowed:

25% tint on front windscreen

30% tint on front sides

and whatever you want elsewhere

This is prob b4 the law changed, but back in 2002 when i was 17 and driving my first car

Rover metro 1.1, COME ON!!!! yea anyway i had limo black tints all round apart from on the front windscreen, i could not c sh!t but nevamind, anyway i got pulled once bcos i had no rear number plate as sum1 has knicked it, (i take it, it was cos the last letters were BJ)

anyway they checked my tax and asked y i had no plate, they didnt mention the tints at all which was surprising!!!

aslong as u drive normally they shouldnt pull u and if they do hopefully u will av had them done by a place that will just re-do em

Vix ur 2 slow go back 2 bed!!!!!!!!! :)

the law is now none other than factory fitted on front 2, nothin at all on windscreen!

and rear 80% darkness! u not even allowd full black on back ne more!

which is sh*t if u drive a van with no windows! wot they gonna do make u cut out the metal and put glass in?

its not being pulled in i would be concerned about, as i drive alright anyway.

its when it comes to the light test in the MOT that i would be afraid of the car failing, and having to take the tint off:mad:

how do i know what % the factory tint is ?

There is NO light test for an MOT.

Sorry mate, you dont live in N. Ireland do you?

Apparently they are bringing it into play in the tests over here

It is getting wild hard to keep a car legal on the road in this place
